Tips for Finding Nursing Technician Jobs at Fairview Health Services
Obtain CNA Certification Before Applying
Most Nursing Technician roles at Fairview require a current Certified Nursing Assistant credential from the Minnesota Board of Nursing. Having this in hand before you apply removes a common hiring blocker and signals you can work without delay.
Target Units With High Turnover
Fairview's medical-surgical and long-term care floors tend to post Nursing Technician openings more consistently than specialty units. Focusing your applications on these departments increases your chances of landing a role open to visa sponsorship.
Time Your OPT Application to Align With Hiring Cycles
Fairview recruits Nursing Technicians year-round, but if you're on F-1 OPT, start your application at least three months before your OPT start date. USCIS processing for OPT EADs can take up to 90 days, and Fairview needs confirmed work authorization before onboarding.
Understand What H-1B Sponsorship Requires From Fairview
For H-1B sponsorship, Fairview must file a Labor Condition Application with the DOL and demonstrate the Nursing Technician role qualifies as a specialty occupation. Confirm this designation is in place before accepting an offer, as not all technician-level roles meet the H-1B threshold.
Use Migrate Mate to Filter Fairview Openings by Visa Type
Fairview posts Nursing Technician roles across multiple departments and locations. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for Fairview positions that list your visa category as a supported sponsorship type, saving time you would otherwise spend reading individual job descriptions.
Ask HR Directly About PERM Timelines During Offer Negotiations
If you're targeting a Green Card through Fairview via EB-2 or EB-3, ask during the offer stage how early they initiate PERM labor certification. Healthcare employers vary widely on timing, and starting early matters given DOL processing backlogs that can run a year or more.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Fairview Health Services sponsor H-1B visas for Nursing Technicians?
Fairview Health Services does sponsor H-1B visas, including for clinical support roles. For Nursing Technician positions specifically, the role must qualify as a specialty occupation requiring a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field, which can be a challenging threshold for technician-level titles. Confirm the specific position's eligibility with Fairview's HR team before proceeding, and verify the Labor Condition Application has been filed with the DOL.
How do I apply for Nursing Technician jobs at Fairview Health Services?
Applications go through Fairview's careers portal at fairview.org. Search for Nursing Technician or Patient Care Technician openings, filter by location, and apply directly. You can also browse Fairview's current Nursing Technician openings filtered by visa sponsorship type on Migrate Mate, which surfaces only roles where your specific visa category is supported, so you're not wasting time on positions that won't work for your situation.
Which visa types does Fairview Health Services commonly use for Nursing Technician roles?
Fairview has sponsored F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, H-1B, TN visa, and EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card pathways for roles in its clinical support workforce. For Nursing Technician positions, F-1 OPT and TN visas are often the most straightforward starting points. TN status is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying healthcare roles. EB-3 is the most common Green Card route for healthcare support roles, sponsored through the PERM labor certification process.
What qualifications does Fairview Health Services expect for Nursing Technician candidates?
Fairview typically expects a current Minnesota CNA certification or enrollment in a nursing program, along with basic life support certification. Candidates with prior patient care experience in hospital or long-term care settings are preferred. Some postings require completion of a nurse aide training program approved by the Minnesota Department of Health. International candidates should verify their credentials meet Minnesota state requirements before applying.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Nursing Technician role at Fairview?
Timelines vary by visa type. F-1 OPT authorization from USCIS takes up to 90 days, so apply early. H-1B petitions are subject to the annual lottery with a cap date of October 1 each year, meaning a successful filing in April may not result in a start date until the following October. PERM labor certification for EB-3 Green Cards can take one to two years at the DOL before any USCIS petition is even filed.
