Frame your degree around biotech systems
Amgen prioritizes engineers who can work at the intersection of software and life sciences. Highlight coursework or projects in bioinformatics, clinical data pipelines, or regulated software environments before you apply.
Target roles aligned with your OPT timeline
F-1 OPT gives you 12 months of work authorization, with a 24-month STEM extension available for qualifying Computer Science and Engineering degrees. Confirm your role qualifies under your degree field before accepting an offer.
Verify Amgen's E-Verify enrollment before filing
STEM OPT extensions require your employer to participate in E-Verify. Amgen is enrolled, so your extension eligibility is intact, but confirm with HR that your specific business unit is covered under the same Federal EIN.
Find open Software Engineer roles on Migrate Mate
Search Migrate Mate to filter Amgen's Software Engineer openings by visa type. It surfaces roles where sponsorship has been filed for similar positions, helping you prioritize applications likely to move forward.
Ask about cap-exempt filing if you hold prior H-1B status
If you've previously been counted against the H-1B cap, Amgen can file on your behalf outside the April lottery window. Clarify your cap status with a recruiter early so the timeline doesn't stall your start date.

Find Software Engineer at Amgen JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Amgen sponsor H-1B visas for Software Engineers?
Yes, Amgen sponsors H-1B visas for Software Engineers. The company has an established immigration program and works with outside counsel to file petitions for qualifying roles. If you're subject to the cap, filings go through the annual April lottery. If you already hold H-1B status from a prior employer, a cap-exempt transfer may be possible outside the lottery window.
How do I apply for Software Engineer jobs at Amgen?
Apply directly through Amgen's careers portal, or browse current openings on Migrate Mate to filter by visa sponsorship eligibility. Tailor your application to reflect experience in regulated or scientific software environments, such as clinical data platforms, bioinformatics tooling, or GxP-compliant systems. Amgen's recruiting process typically includes a technical screen, a coding assessment, and panel interviews with the engineering team.
Which visa types does Amgen commonly use for Software Engineer roles?
Amgen sponsors H-1B, E-3, TN, J-1, and F-1 OPT and CPT for Software Engineers, and supports Green Card sponsorship through EB-2 and EB-3 pathways. E-3 is available to Australian citizens only and bypasses the H-1B lottery. TN is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying occupations. Your best-fit visa depends on your nationality, degree, and career stage.
What qualifications does Amgen expect for Software Engineer roles?
Most Software Engineer roles at Amgen require a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related field. Roles supporting clinical or manufacturing systems often expect familiarity with regulated environments, data integrity standards, or cloud platforms. Senior-level positions typically require several years of hands-on engineering experience, and some research-facing roles value exposure to bioinformatics or scientific computing workflows.
How do I navigate the visa filing process once I have an offer from Amgen?
Once Amgen extends an offer, their HR and legal teams coordinate the petition timeline based on your current status. For H-1B cap cases, the filing window opens in April with an October 1 start date. For cap-exempt transfers or E-3 applications, timelines are shorter. USCIS premium processing, currently available for H-1B petitions, can reduce adjudication to around 15 business days if your start date requires it.
