Align your credentials to biotech engineering standards
Amgen's Engineering roles typically require a degree in chemical, mechanical, electrical, or biomedical engineering. If your degree is from outside the U.S., get a formal credential evaluation so your qualifications map clearly to the role's stated requirements before you apply.
Target roles tied to Amgen's manufacturing sites
Amgen operates major manufacturing and process engineering hubs in locations like Thousand Oaks and Rhode Island. Roles at these sites tend to drive the highest engineering headcount and have established sponsorship pipelines, making them stronger targets than smaller satellite offices.
Search verified sponsoring employers on Migrate Mate
Filter for Amgen's open Engineering roles on Migrate Mate to confirm which positions are actively tied to visa sponsorship. This saves time you'd otherwise spend applying to postings where sponsorship eligibility is unclear.
Understand how Amgen's LCA process affects your start date
Your employer files a Labor Condition Application with the DOL before your H-1B petition can proceed. At a large manufacturer like Amgen, this step is well-practiced, but DOL processing still adds time. Build at least four to six weeks of LCA lead time into your expected start date.
Clarify sponsorship scope during the offer stage
Before signing, confirm in writing whether Amgen will cover PERM-based Green Card sponsorship in addition to the initial work visa. Engineering roles in regulated biotech environments often qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 pathways, but timelines and employer commitments vary by team and location.
Use OPT strategically if you're on an F-1 visa
If you're finishing a U.S. engineering degree, STEM OPT gives you up to 36 months of work authorization. Starting at Amgen on OPT before an H-1B lottery registration gives you time to demonstrate your value and reduces pressure on a single lottery outcome.

Does Amgen sponsor H-1B visas for Engineers?
Yes, Amgen sponsors H-1B visas for Engineering roles. The company is a registered H-1B employer and files petitions across its engineering functions, including process, manufacturing, automation, and facilities engineering. Because Amgen operates at scale in regulated biotech manufacturing, its HR and legal teams are experienced with H-1B filings, including premium processing when timelines require it.
How do I apply for Engineering jobs at Amgen?
Apply directly through Amgen's careers portal, where Engineering roles are listed by function and site. Tailor your resume to the specific engineering discipline, referencing relevant GMP, process development, or automation experience where applicable. You can also browse Amgen's open Engineering positions filtered by visa sponsorship eligibility on Migrate Mate before applying, which helps you prioritize roles where sponsorship is confirmed.
Which visa types does Amgen commonly use for Engineering roles?
Amgen sponsors several visa categories for Engineering hires, including H-1B, E-3 for Australian nationals, TN for Canadian and Mexican engineers, F-1 OPT and CPT for students, J-1 for exchange visitors, and EB-2 or EB-3 immigrant visas for longer-term permanent residency pathways. The right category depends on your nationality, education level, and career stage.
What qualifications does Amgen expect for sponsored Engineering positions?
Most Engineering roles at Amgen require a bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant engineering discipline such as chemical, mechanical, electrical, or biomedical engineering. Roles tied to manufacturing and process development often expect familiarity with GMP environments, FDA-regulated systems, or bioprocess equipment. Advanced degrees strengthen candidacy for senior or research-adjacent engineering positions, particularly those supporting Amgen's biologics pipeline.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for an Amgen Engineering hire?
Timeline depends on visa type. An H-1B cap-subject petition requires a March lottery registration with an October 1 start date at the earliest, making early engagement critical. TN and E-3 visas move faster, often within a few weeks of offer acceptance. PERM-based Green Card sponsorship runs on a separate, longer timeline that Amgen typically initiates after you've established yourself in the role.
