Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Biotech Jobs at Amgen Jobs
Align your degree to Amgen's specialty occupation standard
Amgen's Biotech roles typically require a degree in a specific scientific discipline, not just any STEM field. A biochemistry or molecular biology degree aligned to your target role strengthens the specialty occupation argument USCIS evaluates during H-1B adjudication.
Target roles within Amgen's pipeline-heavy functions
Amgen's biologics pipeline drives consistent hiring in process development, analytical sciences, and late-stage manufacturing. Focusing your applications on these functions, rather than general research, puts you in front of hiring managers with recurring international sponsorship needs.
Use Migrate Mate to filter Amgen's open Biotech positions
Amgen posts Biotech roles across multiple locations and functions simultaneously, making it easy to miss relevant openings. Migrate Mate filters Amgen's listings by visa sponsorship eligibility so you're only spending time on roles that match your work authorization needs.
Clarify your OPT or CPT timeline before applying
If you're on F-1 OPT, confirm your STEM extension eligibility and expiration date before outreach. Amgen participates in E-Verify, which is required for STEM OPT authorization, so your start date and cap-gap window should be part of your offer negotiation conversation.
Prepare your LCA documentation before the offer stage
Once Amgen extends an offer, your employer's legal team files a Labor Condition Application with the DOL before the H-1B petition can proceed. Having your credentials, transcripts, and prior visa documentation organized in advance prevents delays at this step.
Account for Amgen's site-specific hiring when timing your application
Amgen's Biotech hiring concentrates in Thousand Oaks, South San Francisco, and Cambridge. Prevailing wage requirements under DOL rules vary by location, so the same role can carry different sponsorship implications depending on which site you're applying to.

Find Biotech at Amgen JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Amgen sponsor H-1B visas for Biotechs?
Yes, Amgen sponsors H-1B visas for Biotech roles. The company has a dedicated legal team that manages immigration filings for scientific and research positions. Because H-1B petitions are subject to the annual lottery, Amgen typically initiates the process well in advance of the April registration window, so you'll want to have your credentials and documentation ready early in the hiring process.
How do I apply for Biotech jobs at Amgen?
Applications go through Amgen's careers portal, where Biotech roles are posted by function, location, and experience level. You can also find Amgen's visa-sponsoring Biotech openings on Migrate Mate, which filters listings specifically for candidates who need work authorization. Tailoring your application to highlight relevant laboratory experience, therapeutic area knowledge, and degree alignment to the specific role improves your chances of moving past the initial screening stage.
Which visa types does Amgen commonly use for Biotech roles?
Amgen sponsors several visa categories for Biotech positions depending on your background and career stage. H-1B is the most common path for full-time hires. F-1 OPT and CPT are used for students and recent graduates, including STEM extensions. Australian nationals may be considered for E-3 visas, which operate outside the H-1B cap. TN visas are available for qualifying Canadian and Mexican nationals, and J-1 is sometimes used for research-focused training roles.
What qualifications does Amgen expect for Biotech roles?
Most Biotech positions at Amgen require at minimum a bachelor's degree in a biological science, chemistry, or related field, with many roles expecting a master's or PhD for research and process development work. Hands-on laboratory experience in cell culture, analytical methods, or biologic manufacturing carries significant weight. For senior roles, Amgen typically looks for demonstrated experience within a specific therapeutic area, such as oncology or inflammation, that aligns with their active pipeline.
How do I time my job search around the H-1B cap?
The H-1B cap registration window opens in early March each year, with petitions taking effect October 1 for selected applicants. If you're targeting a full-time Biotech role at Amgen, aim to have an offer in place by February so your employer can register you in time. If you're on OPT and miss the lottery, cap-gap provisions allow you to remain in status while a pending petition is processed, provided your employer files before your OPT expires.
