We operate a global, two-sided network at scale that connects hundreds of millions of merchants and consumers. We help merchants and consumers connect, transact, and complete payments, whether they are online or in person. PayPal is more than a connection to third-party payment networks. We provide proprietary payment solutions accepted by merchants that enable the completion of payments on our platform on behalf of our customers.
We offer our customers the flexibility to use their accounts to purchase and receive payments for goods and services, as well as the ability to transfer and withdraw funds. We enable consumers to exchange funds more safely with merchants using a variety of funding sources, which may include a bank account, a PayPal or Venmo account balance, PayPal and Venmo branded credit products, a credit card, a debit card, certain cryptocurrencies, or other stored value products such as gift cards, and eligible credit card rewards. Our PayPal, Venmo, and Xoom products also make it safer and simpler for friends and family to transfer funds to each other. We offer merchants an end-to-end payments solution that provides authorization and settlement capabilities, as well as instant access to funds and payouts. We also help merchants connect with their customers, process exchanges and returns, and manage risk. We enable consumers to engage in cross-border shopping and merchants to extend their global reach while reducing the complexity and friction involved in enabling cross-border trade.

Align your background with PayPal's core systems
PayPal's engineering org prioritizes distributed systems, payments infrastructure, and fraud detection. Frame your experience around high-throughput transaction systems or financial platform work, since generalist software backgrounds are harder to differentiate in fintech hiring.
Target roles that align with H-1B specialty occupation criteria
H-1B approval hinges on USCIS finding the role a specialty occupation. Engineering positions tied to specific technical domains like machine learning infrastructure, payments security, or platform architecture carry clearer degree-field connections than broad software generalist job titles.
Use Migrate Mate to surface open engineering roles at PayPal
Engineering positions with active visa sponsorship don't always stay posted long. Search PayPal's current openings filtered by sponsorship type on Migrate Mate to identify which specific engineering roles are actively hiring international candidates right now.
Account for LCA timing in your start date negotiations
Your employer must file a certified Labor Condition Application with DOL before USCIS can process your H-1B petition. This step alone typically takes one to three weeks, so factor it into any proposed start date to avoid conflicts with expiring status.

Find Engineering at PayPal JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does PayPal sponsor H-1B visas for Engineers?
Yes, PayPal sponsors H-1B visas for engineering roles. The company files petitions for both new H-1B cap-subject beneficiaries and transfers for engineers already holding H-1B status with other employers. Engineering positions in areas like payments infrastructure, platform development, and security tend to align well with USCIS specialty occupation requirements, which strengthens the petition.
How do I apply for Engineering jobs at PayPal?
Applications go through PayPal's careers portal, where you can filter by function and location. Roles are competitive, and engineering candidates are generally expected to complete multiple technical interview rounds covering system design and coding. To find current openings that explicitly support visa sponsorship, browse PayPal's engineering listings on Migrate Mate, which filters specifically for sponsored positions.
Which visa types does PayPal sponsor for Engineering roles?
PayPal sponsors several visa categories for engineering positions, including H-1B, TN for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering occupations, F-1 OPT and CPT for students, J-1 for qualifying exchange visitors, and employment-based Green Card pathways through EB-2 and EB-3 PERM labor certification for longer-term hires. The visa type offered typically depends on your nationality, current status, and the role's seniority level.
What qualifications does PayPal expect for sponsored Engineering positions?
Most engineering roles at PayPal require a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, electrical engineering, or a closely related technical field. For H-1B purposes, your degree must align directly with the job duties, so a degree in a non-technical field is unlikely to support a petition even with strong work experience. Senior roles typically require several years of experience in distributed systems, backend infrastructure, or fintech platform development.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a PayPal engineering offer?
If you're transferring an existing H-1B, PayPal can file a petition before your current status expires, and you can begin working once USCIS receives the petition. For cap-subject H-1B cases, the annual lottery runs in March for an October 1 start date, which can mean a six-month gap between offer and authorization. PERM-based Green Card sponsorship typically takes one to three years or longer, depending on your country of birth and priority date.
