Align your portfolio with biotech engineering
Amgen's engineering roles sit inside a regulated science environment. Highlight experience with data pipelines, cloud infrastructure, or systems that handle sensitive research data. Generic enterprise software experience matters less than domain-adjacent work.
Request LCA details during offer negotiation
Before signing, ask your recruiter which prevailing wage level the Labor Condition Application will reflect. DOL wage levels directly affect your offer range, and understanding where your role sits helps you negotiate from an informed position.
Target roles in Amgen's tech and digital hubs
Senior Software Engineering openings at Amgen cluster around their Thousand Oaks headquarters and Tampa technology center. Use Migrate Mate to filter active roles by location and sponsorship type so you're applying where hiring activity is concentrated.
Prepare for a technical loop reflecting regulated systems

Does Amgen sponsor H-1B visas for Senior Software Engineers?
Yes, Amgen sponsors H-1B visas for Senior Software Engineering roles. The company has an established sponsorship process for this function, and engineering positions consistently appear in their sponsored filings. Because H-1B availability depends on the annual lottery, timing your application cycle and having your employer file promptly in March matters significantly for F-1 OPT holders approaching their cap-out date.
How do I apply for Senior Software Engineering jobs at Amgen?
Applications go through Amgen's careers portal. For international candidates, the most efficient approach is to filter specifically for roles that list visa sponsorship as available. Migrate Mate aggregates Amgen's Senior Software Engineering openings and filters by sponsorship type, so you can identify the right roles without manually screening dozens of listings that may not sponsor.
Which visa types does Amgen commonly use for Senior Software Engineering roles?
Amgen sponsors H-1B, E-3, TN, and F-1 OPT for Senior Software Engineering positions, and supports Green Card sponsorship through EB-2 and EB-3 PERM for longer-tenured engineers. Australian citizens are well-positioned to use the E-3 pathway, which has no lottery and can be renewed indefinitely. Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering roles may qualify under TN classification.
What qualifications does Amgen expect for Senior Software Engineering roles?
Amgen typically looks for a bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a closely related field, combined with hands-on experience building scalable systems. For H-1B sponsorship, the role must qualify as a specialty occupation requiring at least a relevant bachelor's degree, which engineering positions at this level consistently meet. Experience with cloud platforms, data engineering, or scientific computing strengthens your candidacy significantly.
How do I handle H-1B timing if I'm on OPT and interviewing at Amgen?
If you're on F-1 OPT, USCIS requires your employer to file your H-1B petition during the April filing window for an October 1 start date. Coordinate with Amgen's immigration team early in the offer process to confirm they can meet that timeline. If you have STEM OPT, you have up to three additional years of work authorization, which reduces urgency and gives you more flexibility around the lottery cycle.
