Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Legal Counsel Jobs at Okta Jobs
Align your bar admission strategically
Okta's legal roles consistently require active U.S. bar admission. If you're currently admitted in one state, confirm it transfers to California or New York, where Okta's legal team is concentrated, before applying.
Target commercial and privacy law experience
Okta hires legal counsel to support SaaS contracting, data privacy frameworks like GDPR and CCPA, and product compliance. Candidates with in-house tech company experience or dedicated privacy practice backgrounds move faster through Okta's screening process.
Use Migrate Mate to surface active openings
Legal Counsel roles at Okta don't stay open long. Browse Migrate Mate to filter verified visa-sponsoring legal positions at Okta and set alerts so you apply within the first week of a posting going live.
Request H-1B sponsorship before signing your offer
Okta initiates H-1B filings after offer acceptance, not during recruitment. Raise sponsorship explicitly in the offer stage rather than assuming it's automatic. Get written confirmation of the timeline before your start date is set.
Prepare a compliance-ready credential package
Okta's legal hiring moves through structured review. Have your law school transcripts, bar certification letters, and any foreign degree equivalency evaluations ready before interviews conclude. Delays in documentation after an offer can push your H-1B filing past a cap-subject window.
Legal Counsel at Okta jobs are hiring across the US. Find yours.
Find Legal Counsel at Okta JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Okta sponsor H-1B visas for Legal Counsels?
Yes, Okta sponsors H-1B visas for Legal Counsel roles. The company files employer-sponsored petitions after an offer is accepted. Because H-1B cap-subject filings are tied to USCIS's annual lottery window each April, your start date depends on where in the hiring cycle your offer lands. Cap-exempt alternatives like H-1B transfers from an existing employer are processed year-round and move faster.
Which visa types are commonly used for Legal Counsel roles at Okta?
Okta sponsors H-1B visas most commonly for Legal Counsel positions. Candidates already in the U.S. on F-1 OPT or STEM OPT can work while a petition is pending. TN status is available for Canadian and Mexican nationals whose legal specialty qualifies under USMCA. For longer-term pathways, Okta supports EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card sponsorship through the PERM labor certification process with the Department of Labor.
How do I apply for Legal Counsel jobs at Okta?
Browse active Legal Counsel openings at Okta through Migrate Mate, which filters verified visa-sponsoring roles and updates listings in real time. Okta's legal recruiting process typically includes a recruiter screen, panel interviews with senior counsel and business stakeholders, and a written exercise. Roles move quickly, so applying within the first week of a posting going live gives you the best shot at an early interview slot.
What qualifications does Okta expect for Legal Counsel candidates?
Okta expects active U.S. bar admission, a J.D. from an accredited law school, and at least three to five years of relevant experience for most Legal Counsel roles. In-house experience at a SaaS or enterprise software company is heavily weighted. Specializations in commercial contracting, data privacy law, or regulatory compliance align closely with the work Okta's legal team handles across its identity security platform.
How do I plan my timeline if I need H-1B sponsorship at Okta?
If you're applying cap-subject, USCIS opens H-1B registration each March and the lottery runs in April, with an October 1 start date for selected petitions. That means landing an offer between January and February gives Okta enough time to file on your behalf. If you're transferring an existing H-1B, the process is year-round and Okta can file a petition with USCIS before you leave your current employer, allowing you to start on the receipt notice.
