We’re building a world where Identity belongs to you.
Overview
Okta is seeking a strategic and innovative Director of Executive Communications to lead all aspects of communications for our Chief Operating Officer (COO). This is a high-impact role for a seasoned professional who acts as a strategic advisor and operational architect, not just a content producer. You will craft the COO’s voice, ensuring it aligns with Okta’s vision while driving the clarity and alignment necessary for success. As the COO’s trusted communications partner, you will manage external and internal communications to drive thought leadership, visibility, and outcome-driven results. This leader will combine a deep understanding of the current market and Okta’s business priorities with disciplined execution and meticulous attention to detail.
Key Responsibilities
- Operational Storytelling: Develop and execute a communication strategy that defines the COO’s voice, focusing on operational excellence, business impact, and the "connective tissue" between Okta’s vision and its execution.
- Strategic Change Management: Lead communication workstreams for company-wide shifts, re-orgs, and COO strategy updates. You deliver direct, transparent messaging during times of transition.
- Thought Leadership & Executive Positioning: Position the COO as an industry authority on Identity, SaaS operations, GTM innovation, and building a winning company through high performance culture, by crafting high-impact, forward-thinking content, including keynotes/speeches, blogs, social, board presentations, and other public-facing content.
- Cross-Functional Orchestration & Collaboration: Build and maintain relationships with members of the Okta’s executive leadership team to inform COO communications strategy and content. Partner with teams across Global Communications, People, Marketing, Legal, Investor Relations, agency partners, and many others to ensure cohesive and consistent messaging.
- Data-Driven Alignment: Use metrics to validate communication strategies and ensure the COO’s organization is aligned with the company’s Vision, Measures, and Targets (VMT).
- Reputation & Risk Management: Proactively identify and mitigate communication risks related to business operations, handling sensitive internal matters with the highest level of confidentiality.
Qualifications & Core Competencies
- 10-15+ years of relevant communications experience: Ideally owning a C-level executive’s thought leadership and communications platform in a high-growth SaaS or technology company.
- Proven Strategic Advisor: Demonstrated success operating as a strategic partner—not just a content producer—with the ability to engage with and influence senior executives.
- Exceptional Executive Presence: The judgment and confidence to advise senior leaders in real-time and navigate high-profile, confidential projects with discretion.
- Organizational Mastery: Strong organizational skills to manage multiple concurrent priorities, navigate ambiguity, and deliver high-quality work on tight timelines.
- Communication Versatility: Strength in packaging content across a range of channels, including written communications, presentations, speeches, and video scripting.
- Industry & Financial Acumen: Deep understanding of the technology/software industry; experience with financial communications (e.g., investor relations, earnings) is a significant bonus.
Location & Requirements
- Based in Okta’s San Francisco office (In-office requirement).
- BS/BA degree required.
Below is the annual base salary range for candidates located in San Francisco Bay Area. Your actual base salary will depend on factors such as your skills, qualifications, experience, and work location. Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Communications Jobs at Okta Jobs
Frame your portfolio around security narratives
Okta's Communications team regularly translates complex identity and cybersecurity topics for enterprise audiences. Tailor your writing samples and campaign work to show you can simplify technical subject matter without losing accuracy.
Confirm OPT STEM extension eligibility early
Communications roles at Okta often sit within a technology company's organizational structure, but the SOC code tied to your specific job title determines STEM OPT eligibility. Verify your offer letter's job classification before assuming a 24-month extension applies.
Target roles with cross-functional scope
Okta's Communications openings frequently require collaboration with product, legal, and security teams. Positions with broader cross-functional mandates tend to carry clearer specialty occupation documentation, which strengthens an H-1B petition's specialty occupation argument.
Use Migrate Mate to identify open Communications roles
Filtering by visa type and role function saves significant time in your search. Migrate Mate lets you browse verified Communications openings at Okta and similar technology companies that have confirmed sponsorship history.
Request the LCA details before signing your offer
Your employer files a Labor Condition Application with the DOL before submitting your H-1B petition. Ask your recruiter to confirm the prevailing wage level and worksite location listed on the LCA matches your actual role and location.

Find Communications at Okta JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Okta sponsor H-1B visas for Communications roles?
Yes, Okta sponsors H-1B visas for Communications positions. The company has an active sponsorship track record across its technology and corporate functions. Communications roles involving strategic messaging, PR, or content for enterprise security products typically meet the specialty occupation standard USCIS requires for H-1B approval.
How do I apply for Communications jobs at Okta?
Applications go through Okta's careers page, where you can filter by function. Migrate Mate also lists verified Communications openings at Okta with sponsorship details, so you can confirm visa support before applying. Tailor your materials to Okta's identity security focus and include samples that show enterprise or B2B communications experience.
Which visa types are commonly used for Communications roles at Okta?
H-1B is the most common pathway for full-time Communications hires at Okta. F-1 OPT and CPT are used for candidates completing U.S. degrees, and TN visas are available to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying professional categories. Okta also supports Green Card sponsorship through EB-2 and EB-3 classifications for longer-term employees.
What qualifications does Okta expect for Communications positions?
Most Communications roles at Okta require a bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or a related field. Enterprise or B2B technology experience is a strong differentiator, particularly if you've worked on security, SaaS, or identity-related narratives. Internal communications roles often require experience managing communications programs at scale across distributed teams.
How do I plan my timeline if I need visa sponsorship for a Communications role at Okta?
If you're on F-1 OPT, your 60-day grace period begins when employment ends, not when you start applying. For H-1B cap-subject petitions, USCIS registration opens in March for an October 1 start. Build your job search timeline backward from those dates, and confirm your target employer can file before your current work authorization lapses.
