Align your degree to Okta's stack
H-1B eligibility requires your degree to directly relate to the role. Computer Science, Software Engineering, and Information Systems degrees map cleanly to Okta's backend and identity platform roles, which consistently require specialized technical knowledge.
Target roles tied to core products
Okta's identity and access management platform drives the most sustained engineering hiring. Roles tied to authentication protocols, SCIM integrations, or cloud infrastructure have historically seen the most consistent headcount growth and sponsorship activity.
Use Migrate Mate to filter sponsorship-confirmed openings
Not every Engineering job listing at Okta signals sponsorship willingness upfront. Use Migrate Mate to browse roles where Okta's sponsorship history for your visa type is already verified, saving you time before you apply.
Clarify your OPT timeline before the interview stage
If you're on F-1 OPT, calculate your STEM extension window before your first interview. Okta typically runs multi-round technical interviews, so knowing exactly how many months remain helps you frame timing expectations without creating friction in the offer process.
Confirm LCA scope before signing an offer
Okta operates in multiple states with engineering hubs in San Francisco and remote configurations. The Labor Condition Application DOL certifies is tied to a specific worksite, so verify that the LCA covers your work location before the offer is finalized.
Prepare documentation for PERM early if targeting Green Card
For EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship, PERM requires Okta to demonstrate no qualified U.S. workers are available. Keeping a detailed record of your specialized skills and any unique qualifications strengthens your profile when the PERM recruitment process begins.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Okta sponsor H-1B visas for Engineers?
Yes, Okta sponsors H-1B visas for Engineering roles. The company has an active pattern of filing H-1B petitions for technical positions, particularly in software engineering, platform development, and security engineering. If you're currently on H-1B with another employer, Okta can file an H-1B transfer without waiting for the annual lottery, provided a petition is filed before your current status expires.
How do I apply for Engineering jobs at Okta?
Apply directly through Okta's careers site, filtering for Engineering roles by team or location. Most engineering positions require a technical screening followed by system design and coding interviews. Candidates seeking visa sponsorship should flag their status early in the recruiter screen so Okta's immigration team can confirm eligibility for the specific role and worksite before advancing in the process.
Which visa types does Okta commonly sponsor for Engineering roles?
Okta sponsors H-1B, TN visa (for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering roles), and supports F-1 OPT and CPT for students earlier in their careers. For longer-term pathways, Okta also sponsors EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card petitions for Engineering positions through the PERM labor certification process, typically after a candidate has established tenure in the role.
What qualifications does Okta look for in sponsored Engineering candidates?
Okta engineering roles generally require a bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related field, which also satisfies the H-1B specialty occupation requirement. Hands-on experience with distributed systems, APIs, cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure), or identity protocols like OAuth and SAML strengthens a candidacy considerably, particularly for roles within Okta's core platform and security teams.
How do I find Engineering jobs at Okta that offer visa sponsorship?
Okta's job listings don't always specify sponsorship eligibility by visa type upfront. Migrate Mate aggregates Engineering openings at Okta and filters them by visa category, so you can see which roles align with your H-1B, OPT, or TN status before applying. This avoids investing time in a process only to find out late that sponsorship isn't available for your specific situation.
