As a Backend Software Engineer on the Remote Assistance team, you will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining the core services and infrastructure that power our remote assistance platform. Your work will involve creating the APIs, data pipelines, and backend systems that handle real-time data streaming, command processing, and communication with both the autonomous vehicles and the human operator workstations. This is a high-impact role where you will be instrumental in making autonomous trucking a reality by ensuring a reliable and scalable backend.
At Applied Intuition, you will:
- Design, develop, and deploy scalable, low-latency backend services for remote assist session management and real-time data streaming.
- Architect and implement the cloud infrastructure for remote assistance including technologies like protobuf, gRPC across multiple AWS regions.
- Design and implement the service data persistence layer using no sql databases like Redis.
- Implement data pipelines to ingest, process, and store real-time data from autonomous vehicles.
- Collaborate closely with onboard software teams and front-end engineers to ensure seamless end-to-end data flow.
- Ensure the security, reliability, and resilience of the backend platform, including handling network disruptions and failover.
- Optimize data serialization and transmission to minimize latency and bandwidth usage on the server side.
Basic Qualifications
We're looking for someone who has:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
- 3+ years of professional experience in web services software development and cloud infrastructure.
- Strong proficiency in a backend programming language such as Go and Python.
- Experience with distributed systems, microservices, and building scalable backend applications.
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP or OCI) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Hands-on experience with NoSQL databases (e.g., Redis).
Preferred Qualifications
Nice to have:
- Experience leading projects end to end.
- Experience in a startup or fast-paced environment.

Frame experience around safety-critical systems
Applied Intuition builds simulation and validation tooling for autonomous vehicles. Highlighting backend work in safety-critical, high-reliability environments, such as aerospace, robotics, or real-time control systems, positions your profile directly against the problems their engineering teams are solving.
Prepare a specialty occupation documentation package early
For H-1B sponsorship, USCIS requires evidence that the role demands a specific bachelor's degree field. Gather transcripts, a detailed job description, and any publications or patents that tie your computer science or engineering background to the specialized nature of the work before you receive an offer.
Target teams working on simulation infrastructure
Applied Intuition's backend roles cluster around simulation pipelines, data ingestion at scale, and developer tooling for autonomous systems engineers. Applying to requisitions that mention these workstreams, rather than generic backend openings, increases the alignment between your experience and what hiring managers are actually evaluating.
Browse open roles through Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Backend Software Engineer openings at Applied Intuition by the visa type you need sponsored. This lets you confirm which active requisitions are tied to sponsorship-eligible positions before you invest time in the application.
Clarify OPT STEM extension eligibility before your start date
Applied Intuition qualifies as a STEM OPT employer. If you are on F-1 OPT, confirm your degree field appears on the DHS STEM Designated Degree Program list and file your STEM extension with USCIS at least 90 days before your current EAD expires to avoid an authorization gap.
Understand the H-1B cap timeline when negotiating offers
Cap-subject H-1B petitions can only begin work on October 1 after a March lottery registration. If you are not already in H-1B status, discuss this gap with your recruiter during the offer stage so both sides align on a realistic start date rather than treating it as a last-minute issue.

Does Applied Intuition sponsor H-1B visas for Backend Software Engineers?
Yes, Applied Intuition sponsors H-1B visas for Backend Software Engineers. The company files petitions for both cap-subject candidates going through the annual lottery and cap-exempt transfers for engineers already holding H-1B status elsewhere. Sponsorship is handled through the company's in-house immigration process, so you should confirm the specific role is designated as sponsorship-eligible during the recruiter screen.
How do I apply for Backend Software Engineer jobs at Applied Intuition?
Applications go through Applied Intuition's careers portal, where you can filter by engineering discipline and seniority level. Migrate Mate aggregates their Backend Software Engineer openings in one place, letting you filter by the visa category you need before applying. Tailor your resume toward distributed systems, real-time data infrastructure, or simulation tooling to match the technical profile their teams hire for.
Which visa types does Applied Intuition commonly use for Backend Software Engineers?
Applied Intuition sponsors a broad range of work visa categories for Backend Software Engineers, including H-1B, H-1B1 for Chilean and Singaporean nationals, E-3 for Australian citizens, TN for Canadian and Mexican nationals, F-1 OPT and CPT for current students, and J-1 for exchange visitors. Immigrant visa pathways including EB-2 and EB-3 are also supported for longer-term sponsorship. The right category depends on your nationality and current immigration status.
What qualifications and experience does Applied Intuition expect for Backend Software Engineer roles?
Most Backend Software Engineer roles at Applied Intuition require a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, software engineering, or a closely related field. Hands-on experience with distributed systems, high-throughput data pipelines, or developer-facing infrastructure is weighted heavily. Familiarity with C++ or Go and exposure to simulation, robotics, or autonomous systems software is a practical differentiator given the company's focus in the autonomous vehicle industry.
How long does the visa sponsorship process typically take for a Backend Software Engineer at Applied Intuition?
Timeline depends heavily on visa category. E-3 and TN visas can be secured in weeks through consular processing. A cap-subject H-1B requires clearing the March lottery, with work authorization beginning no earlier than October 1, creating a gap of several months from offer to start. USCIS premium processing, available for a fee, reduces adjudication time on approved petitions to roughly 15 business days and is commonly used for time-sensitive situations.
