Tailor your resume to Broadcom's stack
Broadcom's backend engineering teams work heavily on distributed systems, networking software, and platform infrastructure. Frame your experience around scalability, low-level systems, or cloud-native development rather than generic full-stack work to clear their technical bar.
Confirm your visa category before applying
Broadcom sponsors multiple visa types for backend engineers. If you're on F-1 OPT, verify your STEM extension eligibility before your initial OPT expires, since the 24-month STEM extension requires your employer to be enrolled in E-Verify, which Broadcom is.
Target roles inside sponsored business units
Broadcom's infrastructure and platform engineering teams have a stronger sponsorship history than some adjacent product groups. Search specifically for backend roles tied to their networking, storage, or semiconductor software divisions when filtering open positions.
Use Migrate Mate to surface sponsored openings
Not every job listing at Broadcom signals sponsorship willingness upfront. Use Migrate Mate to filter Backend Software Engineer roles at Broadcom by visa type so you're only applying to positions where your immigration status is already accounted for.
Align your offer timing with H-1B cap deadlines
If you need cap-subject H-1B sponsorship, Broadcom must register you in March for an October 1 start. Aim to reach the offer stage by January so there's enough time for internal approvals, LCA filing with DOL, and H-1B registration before the USCIS window closes.
Get your credential evaluation done early
If your computer science degree is from outside the U.S., obtain a credential evaluation from a NACES-member evaluator before interviews begin. Broadcom's immigration team will need it to confirm specialty occupation eligibility when preparing your H-1B or PERM filing.

Find Backend Software Engineer at Broadcom JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Broadcom sponsor H-1B visas for Backend Software Engineers?
Yes, Broadcom sponsors H-1B visas for Backend Software Engineers. The role qualifies as a specialty occupation under USCIS guidelines given the degree requirements in computer science or a related field. Sponsorship typically requires reaching the formal offer stage before Broadcom's immigration team initiates the Labor Condition Application with DOL and the H-1B petition with USCIS.
Which visa types does Broadcom commonly sponsor for Backend Software Engineer roles?
Broadcom sponsors H-1B, TN, and F-1 OPT and CPT for Backend Software Engineer roles, along with immigrant pathways including EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card sponsorship for longer-tenured engineers. TN is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering categories. Each visa type has different timelines and employer filing requirements, so confirm which applies to your situation before accepting an offer.
What qualifications does Broadcom expect for Backend Software Engineer roles?
Broadcom's backend engineering roles typically require a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, electrical engineering, or a closely related field. Practical depth in systems programming, distributed architectures, or networking protocols is weighted heavily. Candidates targeting infrastructure or platform teams benefit from demonstrating experience with high-throughput, low-latency systems rather than application-layer development.
How do I apply for Backend Software Engineer jobs at Broadcom?
You can find and apply for Backend Software Engineer positions at Broadcom through Migrate Mate, which filters roles by visa sponsorship type so you can confirm eligibility before applying. Once you identify a role, applications go through Broadcom's careers portal. Backend engineering interviews typically include a technical screen, multiple system design rounds, and a hiring manager conversation before an offer is extended.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take after a Broadcom offer?
Timeline depends on the visa type. For H-1B, Broadcom must file the LCA with DOL, which takes about seven business days, then submit the H-1B petition to USCIS. Standard processing runs three to six months; premium processing gets a decision within 15 business days. For PERM-based Green Card sponsorship, the DOL audit-based process alone can take one to two years before the I-140 petition is filed.
