Job Description:
Join the Avi Analytics team to deliver high-scale performance monitoring, security, and intelligence telemetry for global enterprises. Beyond our core charter, this team has a storied history of innovation and an extensive patent portfolio. We foster a culture of intellectual curiosity turning creative ideas into tangible solutions.
You’ll fit right in if you're someone who adopts a first-principles approach to problem-solving, love deep-diving into distributed systems to optimize scale and performance, and enjoy the challenge of making data flow seamlessly at a massive scale.
This on-site position is based in Palo Alto, California. You will join a global, cross-border team of talented engineers operating across India, Germany, and the USA.
Key Responsibilities
As a Staff Engineer, you will be architecting and building high-performance, cloud-scale analytics and security solutions. You will play a critical role in envisioning and delivering highly resilient, microservices-based solutions that process massive streams of telemetry for application performance, security, and intelligence.
- Architectural Leadership: Lead the design and implementation of distributed microservices for low-latency data processing and high availability.
- Scale & Performance: Build and optimize data pipelines capable of handling millions of records, ensuring the platform scales elastically in hybrid environments.
- Tech Stack Orchestration: Leverage a sophisticated stack to build durable, stateful workflows to manage complex backend processes.
- Data Strategy: Design schemas and optimize queries across a polyglot persistence layer (OpenSearch, PostgreSQL, Redis, and Neo4j) to provide time sensitive insights to customers.
- Mentorship: Act as a key technical leader by conducting deep-dive code reviews, driving engineering best practices, and mentoring junior engineers.
Required Skills & Experience
Professional Experience
- Minimum of 12+ years of experience in software development with a focus on backend systems.
- Proven experience leading the end-to-end lifecycle of a product, from initial design to production deployment and maintenance.
Programming Proficiency
- Expert Level (GoLang & Python): Deep mastery of Go (concurrency, profiling, and performance tuning) and Python (data manipulation and backend services).
- Moderate Level (C++): Ability to maintain and optimize performance-critical components or interface with lower-level system libraries.
Cloud-Native Architecture & API Design
- Microservices at Scale: Proven experience designing and delivering production-grade microservices for high-throughput, cloud-scale environments.
- Communication Protocols: Proficiency in gRPC, Google Protocol Buffers (Protobuf), and RESTful API design, with a deep understanding of the HTTP/S stack.
- Data Persistence & Search: Hands-on experience with one or more of the following: OpenSearch/Elasticsearch, PostgreSQL, Redis, or Neo4j (or their equivalents).
Desired Skills & Qualifications
- Networking Domain Expertise: Strong understanding of L4–L7 networking, TCP/IP, HTTP/S protocols, and load-balancing principles.
- Advanced Data Engineering: Background in building data pipelines specifically for security and intelligence platforms (e.g., threat detection, anomaly detection, or predictive analytics).
- Analytics Background: Familiarity with time-series data, stream processing, and large-scale data visualization backend logic.
- Data Science Tools: Experience with data modeling and statistical analysis using Python libraries such as Pandas, NumPy, and Scikit-Learn.
- Orchestration: Working knowledge of Kubernetes and experience with Temporal (or similar workflow engines like Cadence) for managing distributed transactions.
- Education: BS/MS in Engineering Computer Science or a related technical field.
Compensation and Benefits
The annual base salary range for this position is USD 121,900.00 To USD 195,000.00
As a valued member of our team, you'll be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus and the opportunity to receive not only a competitive new hire equity grant, but also annual equity awards, connecting your success directly to the company's growth. All subject to relevant plan documents and award agreements.

Align your credentials to specialty occupation standards
Staff Engineer roles at Broadcom typically require a bachelor's degree or higher in electrical engineering, computer science, or a directly related field. Confirm your degree maps cleanly to the role before applying, since USCIS scrutinizes specialty occupation eligibility at petition review.
Target Broadcom's infrastructure and semiconductor divisions
Broadcom's Staff Engineer openings cluster around networking, storage, and custom silicon teams. Filtering your search by these business units increases your chances of landing a role where deep domain expertise is the primary hiring signal, not generalist software skills.
Browse verified sponsoring roles through Migrate Mate
Broadcom posts Staff Engineer roles across multiple channels, but not all listings signal sponsorship availability. Use Migrate Mate to surface only the positions where Broadcom has an active sponsorship track record for this specific role level.
Clarify visa type before your offer letter is drafted
Broadcom sponsors multiple visa categories for Staff Engineers, including H-1B and TN. Ask your recruiter which pathway they intend to file under before signing anything, since the petition type affects your start date, portability rights, and PERM timeline if you're targeting a Green Card.
Account for H-1B cap timing in your job search calendar
If you need a new H-1B rather than a cap-exempt transfer, USCIS registration opens in March with an October 1 start date. Structure your Broadcom interview timeline so an offer can realistically land before the registration window closes.
Prepare for a technical depth interview, not a breadth screen
Broadcom's Staff Engineer interviews emphasize system-level design and domain-specific architecture, particularly in hardware-software integration. Preparing case studies from your own project history that demonstrate cross-functional technical leadership will serve you better than broad algorithm practice.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Broadcom sponsor H-1B visas for Staff Engineers?
Yes, Broadcom sponsors H-1B visas for Staff Engineer roles. The company has a consistent record of filing H-1B petitions for engineering positions at this level. If you're already on H-1B with another employer, Broadcom can file an H-1B transfer, which lets you start work as soon as USCIS receives the petition rather than waiting for approval.
How do I apply for Staff Engineer jobs at Broadcom?
Apply directly through Broadcom's careers portal and filter by engineering level and business unit. Roles in networking, semiconductor, and storage infrastructure are where Staff Engineer headcount is most concentrated. If you need visa sponsorship, confirm sponsorship availability with the recruiter early in the process, since not every open requisition is approved for international hiring.
Which visa types does Broadcom commonly use for Staff Engineers?
Broadcom sponsors H-1B, TN visa, F-1 OPT, and F-1 CPT for Staff Engineer roles, and files EB-2 and EB-3 PERM petitions for permanent residence. TN visa is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering occupations. For long-term immigration goals, understanding which visa category your role falls under at the offer stage helps you plan your Green Card timeline accurately.
What qualifications does Broadcom expect for Staff Engineer roles?
Broadcom's Staff Engineer roles typically require a bachelor's degree or higher in electrical engineering, computer science, or a directly related technical discipline, combined with substantial industry experience in systems architecture or hardware-software integration. Depth in a specific domain, such as networking protocols, custom silicon, or storage systems, carries more weight than breadth across unrelated stacks.
How do I find Broadcom Staff Engineer roles that offer visa sponsorship?
Not every Broadcom job posting makes sponsorship availability clear upfront. Migrate Mate aggregates Staff Engineer openings at Broadcom and filters specifically for roles with a verified sponsorship history, so you can focus your applications on positions where international candidates have a realistic path to an offer without confirming eligibility role by role.
