Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Backend Software Developer Jobs at Chewy Jobs
Tailor your resume to Chewy's stack
Chewy's backend roles consistently call for distributed systems experience, JVM languages, and cloud infrastructure work at retail scale. Highlight specific contributions to high-throughput APIs or inventory systems rather than listing languages generically.
Target teams tied to core commerce
Backend roles supporting Chewy's fulfillment, payments, or autoship systems tend to have the strongest ongoing headcount. Applying to teams with clear business-critical infrastructure needs improves your chances of landing a role with sponsorship attached.
Confirm LCA filing before accepting an offer
Before signing, verify that your offer letter references the Labor Condition Application process. DOL must certify the LCA before USCIS can approve your H-1B petition, so delays at this stage directly affect your start date.
Use Migrate Mate to filter backend roles by sponsorship type
Not all of Chewy's open backend positions are listed with visa sponsorship details on their careers page. Use Migrate Mate to browse Backend Software Developer openings at Chewy filtered by the visa types relevant to your situation.
Understand PERM timing if you're targeting a Green Card
Chewy sponsors EB-2 and EB-3 Green Cards for backend engineers, but PERM labor certification through DOL typically takes 12 to 18 months before USCIS ever sees your I-140. Raise this pathway in offer negotiations, not after you've already started.

Does Chewy sponsor H-1B visas for Backend Software Developers?
Yes, Chewy sponsors H-1B visas for Backend Software Developer roles. H-1B is the primary nonimmigrant pathway for this function, and Chewy participates in the annual H-1B cap lottery each April. Because selection is not guaranteed, it's worth discussing your immigration timeline with the recruiting team early in the process so both sides can plan around lottery outcomes.
How do I apply for Backend Software Developer jobs at Chewy?
You can apply directly through Chewy's careers portal or browse current openings filtered by visa sponsorship type on Migrate Mate. Backend Software Developer roles at Chewy typically move through a recruiter screen, a technical phone interview, and a multi-stage virtual onsite covering system design and coding. Having your sponsorship situation documented before your first recruiter call prevents delays later in the process.
Which visa types does Chewy commonly sponsor for Backend Software Developer roles?
Chewy sponsors H-1B, TN, and F-1 OPT and CPT for nonimmigrant backend engineers. For permanent residence, Chewy supports EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card pathways. TN is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering classifications. F-1 CPT is typically limited to current students completing co-op or internship placements rather than full-time salaried roles.
What qualifications does Chewy expect for Backend Software Developer positions?
Chewy's backend engineering roles typically require a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a closely related field, which also satisfies the specialty occupation requirement for H-1B purposes. In practice, most posted roles expect experience with microservices architecture, Java or Kotlin, and cloud platforms such as AWS or GCP. Retail domain knowledge, especially around order management or catalog systems, is a differentiator but not usually a hard requirement.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Backend Software Developer at Chewy?
For H-1B, expect at least three to six months from offer acceptance to an approved petition, assuming you're filed in the April cap lottery and select premium processing. LCA certification through DOL takes around seven business days. For a Green Card via PERM and EB-2 or EB-3, the full process from labor certification to I-485 approval routinely takes three to five years, depending on your country of birth and the priority date backlog.
