Position Details:
As part of the Center for Data Analytics, Innovation, and Rigor team, you will report to Technical Project Manager. You will design and conduct advanced data analyses and develop machine learning models for use in mental health research. You will perform analyses on large datasets, collected using a range of multi-modal methods, including cognitive assessments (both paper-and-pencil and digitized formats), surveys, and other multimodal biometric modalities. You will be chiefly responsible for the design, documentation, and execution of experiments that advance our understanding of both existing data collection and assessment tools in the mental health space, as well as downstream analytic models that seek to apply these measurements.
This is an exempt, full-time, hybrid position that requires a minimum of four (4) days per week in the office, on a schedule determined by your supervisor in our NYC headquarters office. The in-office requirement and schedule are subject to change based on the needs of the program and the organization.
You Will:
- Design and implement analytical workflows including data preprocessing, feature engineering, model development, scientific analyses, data visualization, and validation.
- Contribute to effective, scalable, well-documented code that is suitable for high-performance computing ecosystems and shared to GitHub, or equivalent, repositories for version control.
- Perform organization, aggregation, pre-processing, and analysis of large datasets using high-performance computing infrastructures.
- Apply both pre-trained and custom-made machine learning models and data manipulation pipelines to research and clinical contexts, ensuring the responsible handling of sensitive data.
- Write documentation and text for scientific or public dissemination of knowledge and attend and present at meetings.
- Assist with the definition of project and collaboration objectives, tasks, and deliverables at the outset of new efforts, and support ongoing monitoring of progress and alignment.
- Perform additional job-related duties as assigned.
You Have:
- Bachelor's in Neuroscience, Psychology, Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 5+ years of experience in data analysis and data science fundamentals (e.g., algorithms, data structures, data visualization, machine learning), preferably in a clinical or research setting.
- 5+ years of experience including education in at least one scientific programming language (e.g., Python/R, Matlab) and related toolboxes or frameworks (e.g., Tidyverse, Scipy, Sklearn, Polars, Pytorch) is required.
- 3+ years of experience including education working in a Linux environment, using version control systems (e.g., GitHub), and software virtualization platforms (e.g., Docker).
- 3+ years of practical experience designing and developing ML and NLP technologies using ML and NLP toolchains (e.g., pytorch, tensorflow, SpaCy, HuggingFace, NLTK).

Target roles aligned with clinical research and neuroscience
Child Mind Institute's sponsorship activity is concentrated in research, clinical, and data-driven roles. Focus your application on positions that directly support their mental health and learning disorders mission, where international hiring is most consistent.
Apply early in the hiring cycle ahead of H-1B deadlines
