ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
We're looking for someone to join our team as a Medical Scribe who:
The Medical Scribe will be responsible to annotate any dictated or written information for treatment of the patient following any local, state, and federal guidelines for documentation in the electronic medical record. Medical Scribes are responsible for clearly recording each patient’s symptoms, history, physical exam, and documenting the diagnosis as well as treatment plans.
Essential Functions:
- The primary role of the Medical Scribe is to assist the Clinician with documentation of each patient’s medical chart during the patient’s visit.
- The Medical Scribe will accompany the Clinician into the patient’s examination area in order to transcribe the history and physical exam with authorization by the patient.
- Under the direction of the Clinician, the Medical Scribe transcribes patient orders, including laboratory tests, radiology tests, referrals, and will retrieve any necessary information required for the Clinician for each patient’s visit.
- Documents any procedures performed by the Clinician within the electronic medical record.
- Transcribes any consultations or discussions with family and/or the Clinician.
- Completes the patient’s chart by transcribing results of any labs, x-rays, or other evaluations dictated by the Clinician. The Medical Scribe continuously checks on the progress of data in order to get the patient’s workup complete so the Clinician is able to make his or her decisions regarding the patient’s prognosis.
- Lists all proper diagnosis as well as any follow-up instructions as dictated by the Clinician.
- The Medical Scribe assists the Clinician and support staff with paperwork, telephone calls, faxing, and chart abstraction as assigned.
- The Medical Scribe is able to process portal communications and either task to appropriate staff or get information from the Clinician to respond to the patient in a timely manner via portal, telephone, or other means as directed.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Medical terminology/anatomy coursework
- Some college preferred
- Previous experience working in an outpatient clinic or doctor’s office and/or Medical transcriptionist experience preferred
- Must adhere to Clinica Sierra Vista’s employee health/immunization requirements or provide a valid exemption request for subsequent approval.
