Responsibilities:
As a Lead EW Coder, you will coordinate coding abstracting, statistics and data retrieval functions with accountability of Accounts Receivable targets, reporting deadlines and compliance with JCAHO indicators.
Some key responsibilities include:
- Coding and abstracting of both Inpatient and Outpatient material.
- Responsible for equitable distribution of work and for ensuring that charts are processed in a timely way.
- Schedules staff in accordance with workflow and workload and troubleshoots problem areas.
- Performs ongoing quality monitoring of individuals in the unit and provides monthly feedback in the form of statistics to manager and unit members.
- Responsible for keeping unit members updated on regulatory changes.
- Trains new employees.
- Coordinates educational inservices and serves as a first line resource for coding questions.
- Acts as liaison between coding staff and Business Office, Admitting Office and physicians.
- Provides input for performance evaluations and hiring.
- Prepares all quality information for review at the ED MD Quality Committee meeting which meets monthly.
- Prepares return correspondence to patients and other providers for the ED Medical Director following the Quality meeting.
- Performs all duties of executive secretary to the ED Medical Director.
Qualifications
- High school diploma/GED required.
- Must have any one of the following coding certifications at time of hire: HCS-D, CCS, CCA, CCS-P, CPC-A, CPC-H-A, CPC-H or CPC.
- One to three years experience as a coder.
