Align your resume to AEI project types
Affiliated Engineers works heavily on building systems, infrastructure, and laboratory facility design. Tailor your resume to highlight coursework or project experience in HVAC, electrical systems, or plumbing engineering. Generalist engineering resumes get filtered out quickly in consulting environments.
Confirm E-Verify enrollment before accepting
STEM OPT extension requires your employer to be enrolled in E-Verify. Before signing an offer, verify Affiliated Engineers' current E-Verify status directly with the recruiting team. Without confirmed enrollment, you can't extend beyond your initial 12-month OPT period.
Time your application around OPT EAD receipt
USCIS recommends applying for your OPT EAD up to 90 days before your program end date. Coordinate your start date with Affiliated Engineers' onboarding timeline so your EAD arrives before your first day. Delays in EAD receipt can push back your start date.
Target infrastructure and laboratory practice groups
Affiliated Engineers' strongest OPT hiring tends to align with their core practice areas: research facilities, higher education buildings, and government infrastructure. Focus your applications on those service lines rather than applying broadly. Practice-specific roles signal a clearer degree-to-job match to hiring managers.
Search Migrate Mate to find AEI-listed OPT roles
Affiliated Engineers doesn't always advertise OPT eligibility prominently in job postings. Use Migrate Mate to filter for roles at AEI that align with your degree and OPT timeline. The platform surfaces positions where the employer's hiring pattern matches F-1 candidates.
Prepare your I-983 training plan before your start date
If you're on STEM OPT, Affiliated Engineers must sign your I-983 training plan before USCIS approves the extension. Draft a detailed plan outlining your learning objectives and how your role connects to your degree. Vague plans are a common reason USCIS issues requests for evidence.
Affiliated Engineers, Inc. OPT Eligibility: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Affiliated Engineers, Inc. sponsor OPT visas?
Affiliated Engineers, Inc. does not sponsor OPT directly. OPT is work authorization granted by USCIS to F-1 students. What AEI does is hire students who already hold an OPT EAD. For STEM OPT extensions, AEI must be enrolled in E-Verify and sign your I-983 training plan, but the authorization itself comes from USCIS.
Which roles at Affiliated Engineers, Inc. typically hire OPT students?
OPT candidates at Affiliated Engineers typically land in mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering roles supporting building systems and research facility projects. Entry-level project engineer and design engineer positions in those practice areas see the most F-1 OPT hiring, particularly for candidates with engineering degrees that map directly to infrastructure or laboratory work.
How do I confirm Affiliated Engineers, Inc. is enrolled in E-Verify before accepting an offer?
Ask the recruiter or HR contact directly whether AEI is enrolled in E-Verify before you accept. E-Verify enrollment is a hard requirement for your STEM OPT extension. If they're not enrolled, your authorization is capped at the initial OPT period. You can also cross-reference using E-Verify's employer search tool on the E-Verify website.
What is the typical timeline from OPT offer to first day at Affiliated Engineers, Inc.?
Plan for at least six to ten weeks between accepting an offer and your first day if your EAD isn't yet in hand. USCIS processes OPT applications within the standard window, but delays happen. Coordinating your expected EAD receipt date with AEI's onboarding team early prevents last-minute start date changes that can complicate your I-20 and SEVIS record.
How do I find open OPT roles at Affiliated Engineers, Inc.?
Affiliated Engineers doesn't always flag OPT eligibility in job postings, which makes it easy to overlook suitable openings. Migrate Mate filters companies by visa hiring history, including employers like AEI that regularly bring on F-1 candidates. Searching by your target role and degree field there gives you a more accurate picture than general job boards.
How does Affiliated Engineers, Inc. hire OPT students?
OPT is work authorization granted directly to F-1 students after graduation — no employer petition is required. Affiliated Engineers, Inc. can hire OPT students as soon as their EAD card is approved. STEM degree holders can extend OPT by 24 months when their employer is enrolled in E-Verify. Most companies that hire OPT students also support the transition to H-1B visa when the student's OPT period is ending. Check Affiliated Engineers, Inc.'s individual postings on Migrate Mate to confirm OPT acceptance per role.
