Align your degree to A&M's specialty occupation roles
Alvarez & Marsal's consulting engagements typically require degrees in finance, accounting, economics, or business analytics. Before applying, verify your degree field maps directly to the role's specialty occupation definition so your STEM OPT eligibility or H-1B transition doesn't face a mismatch challenge later.
Confirm E-Verify enrollment before accepting an offer
STEM OPT's 24-month extension requires your employer to be enrolled in E-Verify. Ask Alvarez & Marsal's recruiting team to confirm their E-Verify status before you sign, since consulting firms sometimes use subsidiary legal entities that have separate enrollment statuses.
Search Migrate Mate to surface A&M's H-1B filing history
OPT is your authorization, but knowing whether Alvarez & Marsal actively files H-1B petitions matters for your long-term plan. Migrate Mate shows their DOL Labor Condition Application filing history by role, so you can assess transition likelihood before you're deep in the interview process.
Time your application to hit campus recruiting cycles
Alvarez & Marsal recruits heavily through MBA and undergraduate programs in the fall. If your OPT start date aligns with a January or July cohort entry point, you'll compete in a structured pipeline rather than as an ad-hoc hire, which typically smooths the onboarding and I-9 verification process.
Use OFLC Wage Search to benchmark your offer against prevailing wage
Consulting offers at Alvarez & Marsal vary significantly by practice area and seniority. Run your job title and location through the OFLC Wage Search before negotiating, because your salary must meet the prevailing wage level when the firm later files your H-1B Labor Condition Application with DOL.
Document your engagement deliverables for future H-1B evidence
While on OPT at Alvarez & Marsal, keep records of client-facing projects, the analytical methods you used, and how your specific degree applied to each engagement. USCIS scrutinizes specialty occupation claims in consulting, and detailed work documentation strengthens your eventual H-1B petition significantly.
Alvarez & Marsal OPT Eligibility: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Alvarez & Marsal sponsor OPT visas?
Alvarez & Marsal doesn't sponsor OPT directly, because OPT is work authorization that USCIS grants to you as an F-1 student, not a petition the employer files. What Alvarez & Marsal does is hire students who already hold an OPT EAD and, in many cases, supports the transition to H-1B sponsorship once OPT authorization nears its end.
Which roles at Alvarez & Marsal typically hire OPT students?
OPT students at Alvarez & Marsal are most commonly placed in performance improvement, financial restructuring, and consumer and retail advisory practices. Roles in financial modeling, data analytics, and operations consulting align well with STEM-designated degrees, which matters for securing the 24-month STEM OPT extension through USCIS.
How do I find open OPT-compatible positions at Alvarez & Marsal?
Migrate Mate filters job listings by employers with active H-1B and LCA filing history, so you can identify Alvarez & Marsal roles where visa-pathway hiring is already established. You can also target A&M's campus recruiting events and their careers portal, filtering by practice area and degree discipline to find the strongest matches.
How do I know if Alvarez & Marsal will sponsor my H-1B after OPT?
Review their publicly available DOL Labor Condition Application filings, which show the job titles and locations where they've historically sponsored H-1B workers. Asking directly during the offer stage is also appropriate. Firms in management consulting do sponsor H-1B regularly, but each practice group's willingness can vary, so clarify this before accepting.
What should I prepare before applying to Alvarez & Marsal on OPT?
Confirm your OPT EAD is valid and covers your anticipated start date. Verify your degree field qualifies the role as a specialty occupation under USCIS standards. If you expect to need the STEM OPT extension, confirm A&M is enrolled in E-Verify before you accept any offer, since that enrollment is a federal requirement for the extension.
How does Alvarez & Marsal hire OPT students?
OPT is work authorization granted directly to F-1 students after graduation — no employer petition is required. Alvarez & Marsal can hire OPT students as soon as their EAD card is approved. STEM degree holders can extend OPT by 24 months when their employer is enrolled in E-Verify. Most companies that hire OPT students also support the transition to H-1B when the student's OPT period is ending. Check Alvarez & Marsal's individual postings on Migrate Mate to confirm OPT acceptance per role.
