Align your degree to active disciplines
Colliers Engineering & Design staffs projects across civil, structural, environmental, and geotechnical engineering. Map your specific degree field to one of these practice areas before applying, since hiring managers expect OPT candidates to slot directly into billable project work without a ramp-up period.
Verify E-Verify enrollment before accepting
STEM OPT's 24-month extension requires your employer to be enrolled in E-Verify. Confirm Colliers Engineering & Design's enrollment status with HR before signing an offer, so your extension eligibility isn't jeopardized after your initial 12-month OPT period begins running.
Time your application around OPT start dates
USCIS recommends filing your OPT application up to 90 days before your program end date. If your graduation falls mid-semester, coordinate with your DSO early so your EAD card arrives before Colliers Engineering & Design needs you to begin, avoiding a gap that delays your first paycheck.
Target offices with active infrastructure portfolios
Colliers Engineering & Design operates across multiple regional offices tied to state DOT and municipal infrastructure contracts. Offices with active public-sector project pipelines tend to absorb entry-level engineering talent faster, so prioritize locations where contract awards match your technical specialty.
Use Migrate Mate to find roles by sponsorship history
Search Migrate Mate to identify Colliers Engineering & Design job listings filtered by visa type. The platform surfaces DOL Labor Condition Application filing history by employer and role, helping you confirm which positions have a documented track record of supporting work authorization transitions beyond initial OPT.
Prepare your H-1B transition conversation early
Colliers Engineering & Design has a documented history of filing H-1B petitions, so raise the OPT-to-H-1B timeline with your hiring manager before your first performance review. H-1B registration opens each March, and missing one cycle costs a full year of work authorization continuity.
Colliers Engineering & Design OPT Eligibility: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Colliers Engineering & Design sponsor OPT visas?
Colliers Engineering & Design hires F-1 students who already hold an OPT EAD, which USCIS issues directly to the student. The company does not file a petition for OPT itself. What matters for STEM OPT is that Colliers Engineering & Design participates in E-Verify, which enables the 24-month extension. Confirm E-Verify enrollment with HR during the offer stage.
Which roles and departments typically hire OPT students at Colliers Engineering & Design?
OPT hires at Colliers Engineering & Design most commonly land in civil, structural, environmental, and geotechnical engineering groups, often supporting infrastructure and transportation projects. Entry-level project engineer and staff engineer roles tend to be the clearest entry points, since they map directly to bachelor's and master's degree fields common among F-1 graduates.
How do I approach the OPT-to-H-1B transition at Colliers Engineering & Design?
Colliers Engineering & Design has filed H-1B petitions historically, which means the pathway exists. Raise the transition timeline with your manager well before your OPT expires, since H-1B registration happens each March for an October 1 start. Missing one registration cycle means a 12-month gap, so early internal alignment is more important than the paperwork itself.
How do I find open OPT-compatible roles at Colliers Engineering & Design?
Migrate Mate lets you search Colliers Engineering & Design job listings filtered by visa type and displays the company's DOL Labor Condition Application filing history by occupation. This helps you identify which roles have a documented sponsorship track record before you apply, rather than discovering the answer during an offer negotiation.
What should I bring up about OPT during my Colliers Engineering & Design interview?
Avoid leading with OPT mechanics in early interview rounds. Once you reach the offer stage, ask HR specifically whether the office location is enrolled in E-Verify, since STEM OPT eligibility depends on it. Also clarify the firm's standard practice for H-1B sponsorship, so you understand the timeline before committing to an employment start date.
How does Colliers Engineering & Design hire OPT students?
OPT is work authorization granted directly to F-1 students after graduation — no employer petition is required. Colliers Engineering & Design can hire OPT students as soon as their EAD card is approved. STEM degree holders can extend OPT by 24 months when their employer is enrolled in E-Verify. Most companies that hire OPT students also support the transition to H-1B when the student's OPT period is ending. Check Colliers Engineering & Design's individual postings on Migrate Mate to confirm OPT acceptance per role.
