Position Overview
The Office of Social Emotional Academic Development works with the Chancellor to ensure coherence in the educational experience for our students, families, and schools. Our goal is to initiate change and lead DC Public Schools into the highest performing school district in the nation.
DCPS is a diverse, urban school district serving students in the nation's capital area. Situated at the center of national government, our goal is to provide students with a quality education that prepares them to become future leaders, productive citizens, and individuals who are engaged in the life of the community. The OSTP Afterschool Coordinator position manages three to five afterschool programs in DCPS that host centrally coordinated afterschool programs supported by the Office of Out of School Time Program (OSTP). The OSTP Afterschool Coordinator position will play a critical role in the delivery of high-quality afterschool programs at the site level, by working closely with community-based organizations, parents, school staff, and other stakeholders to create an infrastructure that will sustain an integrated system of services, partnerships, and programs that meet the specific needs of the school. As an integral part of this strategy, the OSTP Afterschool Coordinator will be the daily point of contact for programming at his/her sites, thus ensuring that afterschool runs smoothly on a daily basis. The OSTP Afterschool Coordinator will be involved in the overall leadership of the afterschool programs, working closely with administrative aides, teachers, administrators, partners, and other school staff. OSTP Afterschool Coordinators will also work to provide support to implement and coordinate summer school programming (when applicable). The tour of duty for this position is Monday through Friday, 10:30am to 6:30pm. This work schedule may vary during the school year and the schedule may be adjusted during the summer school program.
The Coordinator, OSTP (Afterschool) will report to the Manager of Out of School Time Programs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

- Acts as the primary Central Services point of contact for afterschool programming at managed sites.
- Encourages close partnerships between school-based teachers and the afterschool program to increase alignment of learning opportunities provided through the afterschool Academic Power Hour.
- Ensures that daily attendance is collected and provides documentation to OSTP.
- Supports compliance for the Afterschool 21CCLC grant.
- Maintains regular communication with the administrative aide and/or principal.
- Leads overall communications with parents, including: program registration, waitlist movement, co-payments, behavior, etc.
- Supports administrative aides with ensuring that the late pick-up policy is enforced.
- Establishes and maintains regular meetings with the principal and other local staff and participates in DCPS staff meetings as requested by principal.
- Ensures mutually respectful occupancy of afterschool staff, providers, and activities facilitated by all afterschool groups.
- Works with afterschool staff to clarify roles, responsibilities, and expectations among DCPS staff (and providers where necessary).
- Ensures that adequate individual space and utilization of shared space are allotted to all OST programs in the building by coordinating with school leadership.
- Supports OSTP’s evaluation plan and program monitoring activities by implementing tools, surveys, and data collection activities as required.
- Completes reports and responds to internal/external project-related inquiries as required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree and two to four years of related work experience.
- Master's degree preferred.
- Previous exposure to or experience in the education sector a plus.
- Strong organizational, monitoring, and interpersonal skills with proven trouble-shooting, coordination, and multi-tasking capabilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

- Experience working with community organizations.
- Familiarity with youth enrichment and development needs and resources.
- Knowledge of public school environment preferred.
