Align your degree to GPI's project types
Greenman-Pedersen's work spans transportation, structural, and environmental consulting. Map your degree field directly to their active project sectors before applying. Hiring managers at engineering consultancies prioritize candidates whose coursework mirrors the technical discipline of open roles, not general STEM backgrounds.
Confirm E-Verify enrollment before accepting offers
STEM OPT's 24-month extension requires your employer to be enrolled in E-Verify. Verify GPI's enrollment status early in the offer stage, not after signing. A delay in confirming enrollment can compress the window you have to submit your STEM OPT extension application to your DSO.
Target Migrate Mate to surface GPI's H-1B history
OPT is a bridge, not an endpoint. Use Migrate Mate to review Greenman-Pedersen's H-1B Labor Condition Application filings by job title and location. This tells you which roles the firm has historically converted to H-1B, so you can target positions with a realistic long-term sponsorship path.
Submit your OPT EAD application 90 days early
USCIS recommends filing your OPT EAD application no later than 90 days before your program end date. Processing delays are common. If your EAD isn't in hand before your start date at GPI, you can't legally begin work, even with a signed offer letter.
Highlight project delivery experience in technical interviews
Consulting firms like GPI evaluate candidates on client-facing and project coordination skills, not just technical knowledge. Frame your academic projects or internships around deliverables, timelines, and stakeholder outcomes. Engineering consulting interviews often probe how you've managed competing priorities on multi-phase work.
Use O*NET to benchmark your role's specialty occupation standing
Before your H-1B transition conversation with GPI's HR team, look up your job title in O*NET to confirm it meets the specialty occupation threshold. Roles requiring a specific bachelor's degree field qualify. This preparation helps you advocate clearly for H-1B sponsorship when the time comes.
Greenman-Pedersen, Inc OPT Eligibility: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Greenman-Pedersen, Inc sponsor OPT visas?
Greenman-Pedersen, Inc hires F-1 students who already hold an OPT EAD issued by USCIS. The company doesn't petition for OPT itself since OPT is student-held work authorization, not employer-sponsored. What matters is that GPI operates in technical fields that align well with OPT-eligible degrees, and the firm has a track record of hiring across engineering and environmental consulting disciplines.
Which roles at Greenman-Pedersen, Inc are most accessible for OPT students?
OPT students most commonly enter GPI through engineering, environmental science, and project support roles. Positions in transportation planning, structural engineering, civil design, and construction inspection align closely with the degree fields that generate OPT eligibility. Entry-level and junior associate positions are the most frequent entry points for F-1 graduates.
How do I approach the OPT-to-H-1B transition at Greenman-Pedersen, Inc?
Start the H-1B visa conversation with GPI's HR team during your first year on OPT, not after your authorization nears expiration. USCIS's H-1B cap registration opens each March for an October 1 start date, so timing matters. Use Migrate Mate to review GPI's historical LCA filings and identify which job titles the firm has sponsored for H-1B visa, giving you a data-backed case to present internally.
Does Greenman-Pedersen, Inc support STEM OPT extensions?
If your degree qualifies under USCIS's STEM designated degree program list and GPI is enrolled in E-Verify, you're eligible to apply for the 24-month STEM OPT extension through your DSO. Confirm GPI's E-Verify status before your initial OPT expires. Your DSO submits a new I-20 and you file Form I-765 with USCIS at least 90 days before your current EAD end date.
How do I make my application stand out for OPT roles at Greenman-Pedersen, Inc?
Consulting firms prioritize candidates who can contribute to billable project work immediately. Tailor your resume to the specific engineering or environmental discipline GPI is hiring for, citing relevant coursework, software proficiencies, and any project delivery experience. Referencing GPI's project portfolio in your cover letter demonstrates sector awareness that generalist applications lack.
How does Greenman-Pedersen, Inc hire OPT students?
OPT is work authorization granted directly to F-1 students after graduation — no employer petition is required. Greenman-Pedersen, Inc can hire OPT students as soon as their EAD card is approved. STEM degree holders can extend OPT by 24 months when their employer is enrolled in E-Verify. Most companies that hire OPT students also support the transition to H-1B when the student's OPT period is ending. Check Greenman-Pedersen, Inc's individual postings on Migrate Mate to confirm OPT acceptance per role.
