Align your degree to specialty occupation standards
NYU Langone Health evaluates OPT candidates partly on whether their role will qualify for H-1B later. Review O*NET for your target job code and confirm your degree field directly maps to the occupation's educational requirements before applying.
Target research and clinical operations departments first
Clinical research coordinators, biostatisticians, and health informatics analysts are among the roles where NYU Langone Health has consistently hired international graduates. These departments are accustomed to OPT timelines and understand STEM OPT extension requirements better than general administrative units.
Confirm E-Verify enrollment before accepting an offer
STEM OPT extension requires your employer to be enrolled in E-Verify. NYU Langone Health participates, but confirm enrollment covers your specific hiring entity, since large health systems sometimes use subsidiaries or affiliates with separate EINs that may not share the same E-Verify account.
Use Migrate Mate to verify H-1B filing history by department
Migrate Mate shows NYU Langone Health's H-1B Labor Condition Application filings by job title and location. Use this to identify which roles have a real H-1B pathway before you invest time in the interview process, not after you've already accepted an offer.
Time your application around your OPT start window
USCIS allows you to apply for OPT up to 90 days before your program end date. Coordinate your NYU Langone Health offer timeline so your EAD arrives before your intended start date, since onboarding cannot begin without it regardless of offer acceptance.
Request a written statement on H-1B sponsorship intent
Before signing an offer, ask the hiring manager or HR directly whether the role is eligible for H-1B sponsorship after OPT. Large health systems like NYU Langone Health have formal immigration policies, and getting clarity upfront avoids a difficult conversation 29 months into your employment.
NYU Langone Health OPT Eligibility: Frequently Asked Questions
Does NYU Langone Health sponsor OPT visas?
NYU Langone Health does not sponsor OPT itself. OPT is work authorization granted by USCIS directly to F-1 students, not petitioned by employers. What NYU Langone Health does is hire candidates who already hold an OPT EAD, and it supports the STEM OPT extension by maintaining E-Verify enrollment, which is the employer's required role in that process.
Which departments at NYU Langone Health typically hire OPT students?
Clinical research, health informatics, biostatistics, and data analytics are the departments most likely to hire OPT students at NYU Langone Health. These teams regularly work with international graduates from life sciences, public health, and computer science programs and have established processes for accommodating OPT employment authorization timelines during onboarding.
How do I confirm NYU Langone Health will support my STEM OPT extension?
Ask your HR contact to confirm that the specific legal entity hiring you is enrolled in E-Verify, since STEM OPT extension requires E-Verify participation at the employer level. NYU Langone Health as a system participates, but your offer letter should identify the exact employing entity so you can verify enrollment before your 90-day STEM OPT application window opens.
How do I know if NYU Langone Health will sponsor my H-1B after OPT?
Migrate Mate's LCA filing data shows which job titles and departments at NYU Langone Health have active H-1B sponsorship history. Reviewing this before you accept an OPT offer is the most reliable way to assess whether your specific role has a real H-1B pathway, since not all departments within a large health system sponsor equally.
How do I time my OPT application to align with a NYU Langone Health start date?
USCIS recommends applying for OPT 90 days before your program end date, and processing typically takes one to three months. Discuss your anticipated start date with NYU Langone Health's HR team early in the offer process so both sides can plan around your EAD arrival, since employment cannot legally begin until the EAD is in hand.
How does NYU Langone Health hire OPT students?
OPT is work authorization granted directly to F-1 students after graduation — no employer petition is required. NYU Langone Health can hire OPT students as soon as their EAD card is approved. STEM degree holders can extend OPT by 24 months when their employer is enrolled in E-Verify. Most companies that hire OPT students also support the transition to H-1B when the student's OPT period is ending. Check NYU Langone Health's individual postings on Migrate Mate to confirm OPT acceptance per role.
