Align your degree to Olsson's project work
Olsson's consulting work spans civil, structural, mechanical, and environmental engineering. Before applying, map your degree field to their active service lines. A direct match between your coursework and their project portfolio signals readiness and reduces friction during offer negotiations.
Confirm E-Verify enrollment before accepting offers
STEM OPT's 24-month extension requires your employer to be enrolled in E-Verify. Ask Olsson's recruiter to confirm enrollment status early, not after signing. Without it, you're limited to the standard 12-month OPT window regardless of your degree classification.
Target regional offices with active project pipelines
Olsson operates across multiple U.S. regions, and hiring volume varies by office. Focus applications on offices tied to infrastructure-heavy markets where project backlogs create consistent demand for early-career engineers, giving your OPT timeline more runway before H-1B filing becomes necessary.
Research Olsson's H-1B filing history on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to review Olsson's H-1B LCA filing history by role and location. This shows which job titles they've sponsored before, giving you a realistic picture of your transition path from OPT to H-1B before you invest time in their application process.
Prepare your I-983 training plan before onboarding
For STEM OPT, you and Olsson must jointly complete USCIS Form I-983, detailing your training goals and how the role relates to your degree. Having a draft ready before your start date signals professionalism and prevents delays that could affect your work authorization status.
Time your application around Olsson's campus recruiting cycle
Consulting and engineering firms like Olsson typically recruit on-campus in the fall for spring and summer starts. Applying through their university partnerships gives you a structured evaluation path where OPT timelines are already factored into offer decisions rather than treated as complications.
Olsson OPT Eligibility: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Olsson sponsor OPT visas?
Olsson hires F-1 students who already hold OPT work authorization. USCIS grants OPT directly to eligible F-1 students, so Olsson doesn't petition for it. What matters is that Olsson is enrolled in E-Verify, which is required for STEM OPT extensions. Confirming that enrollment before you accept an offer protects your eligibility for the full 36-month OPT period.
Which roles at Olsson typically hire OPT students?
Olsson's strongest hiring for OPT students tends to fall in civil, structural, environmental, and mechanical engineering. Entry-level project engineer and design roles are the most common entry points. Transportation, water resources, and facilities disciplines also show consistent demand, particularly in offices supporting large regional infrastructure projects.
How do I navigate the OPT-to-H-1B transition at Olsson?
Olsson has a history of sponsoring H-1B visas for employees in engineering roles, but you should raise the topic during the offer stage, not after you've started. H-1B registration opens each March for an October 1 start, so your OPT end date needs to align. Use Migrate Mate to review Olsson's LCA filing history and confirm which roles they've sponsored before committing.
What timeline should I plan for when applying to Olsson on OPT?
Factor in three timelines running at once: your DSO's processing time for the OPT EAD, Olsson's internal offer-to-start timeline, and the STEM OPT extension window if applicable. USCIS recommends applying for OPT at least 90 days before your program end date. Coordinating these with Olsson's hiring cycle early prevents gaps in your authorization.
How do I strengthen my application for an OPT role at Olsson?
Demonstrating project relevance is more persuasive than listing coursework. Show how your degree maps directly to Olsson's active service areas, and if you've completed internships or co-ops in infrastructure or consulting, lead with those. Reference your STEM classification clearly on your resume so recruiters don't have to ask about your OPT timeline.
How does Olsson hire OPT students?
OPT is work authorization granted directly to F-1 students after graduation — no employer petition is required. Olsson can hire OPT students as soon as their EAD card is approved. STEM degree holders can extend OPT by 24 months when their employer is enrolled in E-Verify. Most companies that hire OPT students also support the transition to H-1B when the student's OPT period is ending. Check Olsson's individual postings on Migrate Mate to confirm OPT acceptance per role.
