Target Roles Matching Your Degree Field
Prometric's OPT hiring concentrates in psychometrics, software engineering, and data operations. Before applying, confirm your degree field aligns with the specific role, since OPT authorization requires a direct relationship between your coursework and the job you accept.
Verify Prometric's E-Verify Enrollment Early
STEM OPT's 24-month extension requires your employer to be enrolled in E-Verify. Confirm Prometric's enrollment status before accepting an offer so you're not scrambling after your initial 12-month OPT period ends and need the extension filed promptly.
Time Your Application Around OPT Start Dates
USCIS allows you to apply for OPT up to 90 days before your program end date. Align Prometric's hiring timeline with your authorized start date, since working even one day before your EAD is issued violates your F-1 status.
Use Migrate Mate to Find Active Prometric Openings
Searching broadly misses roles Prometric actively fills with OPT students. Migrate Mate filters jobs by visa type and employer sponsorship history, so you can target Prometric positions already open to OPT candidates without wading through unadvertised restrictions.
Prepare a STEM OPT Training Plan Before Interviewing
For STEM OPT, Prometric must sign a Form I-983 training plan outlining your learning objectives and supervision structure. Drafting a preliminary version before your offer stage signals preparation and shortens the paperwork gap between offer acceptance and your extension filing.
Ask Directly About H-1B Sponsorship Intent
OPT gives you up to 36 months in a STEM role, but a long-term path at Prometric requires H-1B sponsorship. During the offer stage, ask the hiring team directly whether the role has historically transitioned OPT employees to H-1B status before the cap deadline.
Prometric OPT Eligibility: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Prometric sponsor OPT visas?
Prometric doesn't sponsor OPT directly, since OPT is work authorization USCIS grants to F-1 students, not something employers file for. What Prometric does is hire students who already hold a valid OPT EAD. For STEM OPT extensions, Prometric's E-Verify enrollment is what makes the 24-month extension possible.
Which departments at Prometric typically hire OPT students?
Prometric's strongest OPT hiring tends to cluster in psychometrics, data analytics, software development, and test operations. These teams regularly bring on F-1 graduates whose degrees in statistics, computer science, or education measurement align directly with the technical nature of Prometric's credentialing and assessment work.
How do I start the OPT process before joining Prometric?
Your DSO at your university initiates the OPT application by updating your SEVIS record and issuing a new I-20 recommending OPT. You then file Form I-765 with USCIS. Prometric is not part of this process. You need your EAD in hand before your first day of work.
How do I know if a Prometric role qualifies for STEM OPT?
A role qualifies for STEM OPT if it falls under an approved STEM Classification of Instructional Programs code on your degree and the job involves work directly related to that field. Use O*NET to confirm the occupation classification, then cross-check with your DSO before accepting the offer.
How do I find OPT-eligible jobs at Prometric?
Migrate Mate surfaces open positions at employers with verified OPT hiring history, including Prometric, so you can filter directly for roles compatible with your EAD. This saves you from applying to postings that exclude OPT candidates, and helps you focus outreach where Prometric is actively hiring F-1 students.
How does Prometric hire OPT students?
OPT is work authorization granted directly to F-1 students after graduation — no employer petition is required. Prometric can hire OPT students as soon as their EAD card is approved. STEM degree holders can extend OPT by 24 months when their employer is enrolled in E-Verify. Most companies that hire OPT students also support the transition to H-1B visa when the student's OPT period is ending. Check Prometric's individual postings on Migrate Mate to confirm OPT acceptance per role.
