Target divisions that match your degree
Robert Half operates through specialized divisions including Accountemps, Robert Half Technology, and Robert Half Management Resources. Applying through the division that matches your field strengthens your fit signal and puts you in front of recruiters who understand your credentials and can advocate for your hire.
Verify E-Verify enrollment before accepting
STEM OPT extension requires your employer to be enrolled in E-Verify. Confirm Robert Half's enrollment status with your recruiter before signing an offer, so your DSO can process the 24-month extension without delays tied to employer compliance gaps.
Align your resume to specialty occupation standards
If you're planning an OPT-to-H-1B transition at Robert Half, frame your resume around degree-specific duties from day one. USCIS evaluates whether a role qualifies as a specialty occupation, so your work history at Robert Half needs to reflect that connection clearly.
Use Migrate Mate to find Robert Half roles with H-1B history
Search Migrate Mate to see which Robert Half positions have H-1B filing history by job title and location. That filing history signals which roles the company has sponsored before, helping you prioritize applications where the OPT-to-H-1B pathway is already established.
Negotiate start date around your EAD card
Your OPT start date can't precede your EAD card issue date. When Robert Half extends an offer, build buffer time into your start date negotiation to account for USCIS processing. Starting before your card arrives creates unauthorized employment, which jeopardizes your immigration record.
Prepare your prevailing wage documentation early
Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the prevailing wage for your role before your offer stage. If Robert Half's offered salary falls below the DOL wage level for your occupation and location, you'll want to address that before your employer files any future H-1B petition.
Robert Half OPT Eligibility: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Robert Half sponsor OPT visas?
Robert Half doesn't sponsor OPT directly. OPT is work authorization issued by USCIS to eligible F-1 students, not a visa petition filed by the employer. What Robert Half does is hire students who already hold a valid OPT EAD, and it has a record of supporting the transition to H-1B sponsorship for strong performers.
Which roles and departments at Robert Half typically hire OPT students?
Robert Half most consistently hires OPT students through its finance and accounting, technology, and administrative staffing divisions. Roles like financial analyst, staff accountant, IT support specialist, and data analyst appear frequently. Placement-based roles that align with a bachelor's degree in a specific field tend to be the strongest fit for OPT authorization.
How do I navigate the offer and onboarding process at Robert Half on OPT?
Once Robert Half extends an offer, provide your EAD card details for I-9 verification before your start date. Confirm that your position's duties match your degree field to support any future H-1B petition. If you're on STEM OPT, verify E-Verify enrollment and coordinate with your DSO to submit the STEM extension request to USCIS on time.
How do I find Robert Half OPT jobs that could lead to H-1B sponsorship?
Migrate Mate shows Robert Half job listings filtered by H-1B filing history, so you can identify which roles and locations the company has sponsored before. Prioritizing those positions improves your chances of an OPT-to-H-1B transition. Roles in technology, finance, and specialized consulting have historically been stronger candidates for H-1B sponsorship at staffing firms like Robert Half.
What timeline should I expect for the OPT-to-H-1B transition at Robert Half?
H-1B cap-subject petitions are filed in April for an October 1 start date. If your OPT end date falls before October 1, cap-gap protection extends your authorization provided your petition is filed on time. Start conversations with Robert Half's HR team at least six months before your OPT expires so they can engage immigration counsel and meet the USCIS filing window.
How does Robert Half hire OPT students?
OPT is work authorization granted directly to F-1 students after graduation — no employer petition is required. Robert Half can hire OPT students as soon as their EAD card is approved. STEM degree holders can extend OPT by 24 months when their employer is enrolled in E-Verify. Most companies that hire OPT students also support the transition to H-1B when the student's OPT period is ending. Check Robert Half's individual postings on Migrate Mate to confirm OPT acceptance per role.
