- Maintain detailed records of communications with clients, contractors, vendors, and team members.
- Coordinate contract documents with construction administrators; perform site observations as required and support CA as needed.
- Perform collision checks in Navisworks; visually review plans for defects and drive resolution with the team.
- Assist with development of man-hour budgets and execute work to the plan; quantify effort and flag risks early.
- Help organize complete, well-structured drawing sets; maintain project design and construction files.
- Stay current on codes, design software, and industry trends; assist in mentoring designers and EITs; support field verification as needed.
- On select projects, support project management tasks—scope definition, scheduling, client communication, QA/QC plan, profitability oversight, and closeout.

Target SSR's engineering and technical divisions
Smith Seckman Reid focuses on engineering consulting across mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and technology systems. Align your resume to specific practice areas rather than applying broadly. OPT students with project-based coursework in building systems or infrastructure get the strongest traction.
Confirm your OPT EAD before starting applications
SSR hires students who already hold an active OPT EAD issued by USCIS. Before reaching out to recruiters, make sure your EAD is approved and reflects the correct employer authorization type. Starting the conversation before your card arrives creates unnecessary delays in the offer timeline.
Verify SSR's E-Verify enrollment before accepting an offer
If you're on a STEM degree and plan to apply for the 24-month STEM OPT extension, your employer must be enrolled in E-Verify. Confirm SSR's enrollment status early in negotiations, since STEM OPT extension eligibility depends entirely on this requirement being met before your initial OPT expires.
Use Migrate Mate to research SSR's visa filing history
Before your interview, use Migrate Mate to review SSR's sponsorship track record across visa types. Knowing which roles and office locations have led to H-1B filings helps you ask informed questions about long-term sponsorship pathways during your offer discussions with the recruiting team.
Demonstrate project delivery skills during technical interviews
SSR's consulting work centers on coordinating across engineering disciplines under tight project schedules. OPT candidates who can show experience managing deliverables, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, or working within design-build environments stand out over candidates with only academic or lab-based backgrounds.
Clarify the H-1B sponsorship timeline during your offer negotiation
SSR sponsors H-1B visas, but the timeline from OPT hire to H-1B petition depends on your start date relative to USCIS's annual April registration window. Ask your recruiter directly whether the firm has a formal process for transitioning OPT employees and which team leads that process.
Smith Seckman Reid, Inc. OPT Eligibility: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Smith Seckman Reid, Inc. sponsor OPT visas?
Smith Seckman Reid, Inc. does not sponsor OPT itself. OPT is work authorization that USCIS grants directly to F-1 students. SSR hires students who already hold an active OPT EAD, which means you handle the OPT authorization through your school's DSO and USCIS before SSR becomes involved in the employment process.
Which roles at Smith Seckman Reid, Inc. typically hire OPT students?
SSR most commonly brings on OPT students for engineering roles across mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and technology systems consulting. Project engineer, design engineer, and technical analyst positions in SSR's building and infrastructure practices tend to align best with the degree backgrounds of OPT-eligible candidates from engineering and applied sciences programs.
How do I apply for OPT jobs at Smith Seckman Reid, Inc.?
Apply through SSR's careers portal and note your OPT authorization status in your application. Before doing so, use Migrate Mate to identify which SSR office locations and practice areas have the strongest sponsorship history. Having your OPT EAD in hand before reaching out to recruiters accelerates the offer and onboarding process significantly.
How do I know if Smith Seckman Reid, Inc. supports STEM OPT extension?
STEM OPT extension requires your employer to be enrolled in E-Verify at the time you apply. Ask SSR's recruiting or HR team to confirm their E-Verify enrollment status during the offer stage. Your DSO will also need to verify this before they can recommend the extension to USCIS on your behalf.
Does Smith Seckman Reid, Inc. sponsor H-1B visas for OPT employees?
SSR sponsors H-1B visas and lists H-1B among its supported visa types. OPT employees who perform well during their authorization period are candidates for H-1B sponsorship. Because USCIS's H-1B registration window opens each spring for an October 1 start date, timing your OPT hire date relative to that cycle matters for a seamless transition.
How does Smith Seckman Reid, Inc. hire OPT students?
OPT is work authorization granted directly to F-1 students after graduation — no employer petition is required. Smith Seckman Reid, Inc. can hire OPT students as soon as their EAD card is approved. STEM degree holders can extend OPT by 24 months when their employer is enrolled in E-Verify. Most companies that hire OPT students also support the transition to H-1B when the student's OPT period is ending. Check Smith Seckman Reid, Inc.'s individual postings on Migrate Mate to confirm OPT acceptance per role.
