Your Role:
Tetra Tech is seeking a Pavement Engineer to join one of our Texas offices to support a growing portfolio of transportation infrastructure projects. This is an integrated role for a developing professional who wants to build experience across both pavement engineering and pavement management, working across the full lifecycle of roadway assets.
The successful candidate will contribute to pavement design, rehabilitation, preservation, forensic investigations, condition assessment, performance analysis, treatment selection, and network-level planning. While the role is based in one of our Texas offices and will support projects across the state, it will also contribute to projects throughout North America, providing exposure to a diverse range of agency standards, climatic conditions, materials, and pavement management practices.
This is not a narrow design-only or data-only role. It is designed for an engineer who wants to develop across the full pavement lifecycle, gaining experience in both project-level engineering and network-level asset management. The role combines technical engineering, data analysis, and infrastructure decision-making, reflecting how modern pavement programs are delivered across leading agencies.
This position is primarily office-based within one of our Texas offices, with collaboration across distributed teams. Travel is required periodically to support field investigations, condition assessments, and project coordination activities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline, with a focus on pavement engineering
- 3–6 years of relevant experience in pavement engineering, pavement management, transportation infrastructure, or related fields
- Strong analytical, technical documentation, and communication skills, with a demonstrated commitment to accuracy, quality, and consistency
- Ability to work with and interpret infrastructure datasets and support defensible engineering decisions

Target Tetra Tech's STEM-heavy practice areas
Tetra Tech's environmental engineering, water infrastructure, and data science teams align directly with STEM OPT-eligible degree fields. Research which practice areas match your major before applying, a clear degree-to-role connection strengthens your candidacy and supports your STEM OPT extension eligibility.
Verify your role qualifies for STEM OPT
Not every Tetra Tech position qualifies for the 24-month STEM OPT extension. Cross-reference your job title against the official STEM Designated Degree Program List and use O*NET to confirm the occupation requires a qualifying degree field before accepting an offer.
Confirm Tetra Tech's E-Verify enrollment before signing
STEM OPT extensions require your employer to be enrolled in E-Verify. Before accepting an offer, ask Tetra Tech's HR team to confirm active enrollment. USCIS requires this enrollment to be in place before your DSO can recommend the extension on your I-20.
Time your application around Tetra Tech's hiring cycles
Tetra Tech recruits heavily through campus partnerships and spring engineering job fairs, particularly for project-support and environmental consulting roles. Applying six to eight months before your OPT start date gives you enough runway to complete onboarding and file your STEM OPT extension paperwork without gaps.
Use Migrate Mate to find verified Tetra Tech OPT openings
Searching broadly for consulting roles wastes time on employers who don't hire OPT students. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for Tetra Tech positions open to OPT candidates, so you're applying where your work authorization is already expected and welcomed by the hiring team.
Benchmark your salary against OFLC Wage Search data
If Tetra Tech later sponsors your H-1B, your offered salary must meet DOL prevailing wage levels for your role and location. Use the OFLC Wage Search to check wage levels for your job title now, so you can evaluate whether your OPT offer reflects a realistic transition to H-1B compensation.
Tetra Tech OPT Eligibility: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Tetra Tech sponsor OPT visas?
Tetra Tech doesn't sponsor OPT itself, USCIS grants OPT work authorization directly to F-1 students. What Tetra Tech does is hire students who already hold an OPT EAD, particularly across STEM-related roles in environmental engineering, data analytics, and infrastructure consulting. For STEM OPT extensions, Tetra Tech's E-Verify enrollment is what makes the 24-month extension possible.
Which departments at Tetra Tech typically hire OPT students?
Tetra Tech's strongest hiring for OPT students tends to be in environmental science, civil and environmental engineering, water resources, geospatial analysis, and sustainability consulting. These practice areas align well with STEM-designated degree programs, making them the most viable entry points for both initial OPT work and subsequent STEM OPT extension eligibility.
How do I know if my Tetra Tech role qualifies for a STEM OPT extension?
Your degree must appear on the STEM Designated Degree Program List, and your role must directly use that degree. Use O*NET to verify that your job title falls under an occupation requiring a qualifying STEM field. Your DSO also needs to confirm the match before recommending the extension on your I-20, so loop them in early.
Does Tetra Tech sponsor H-1B visas after OPT?
Tetra Tech has an established history of sponsoring H-1B visas, including for employees who start on OPT. The transition isn't automatic, so raise the conversation with your manager before your OPT authorization nears its end date. USCIS H-1B filing deadlines are fixed annually, so timing matters significantly for a smooth status change.
How do I find OPT jobs at Tetra Tech that match my degree?
Start by filtering for Tetra Tech openings on Migrate Mate, which surfaces roles from employers with active OPT hiring history. Then cross-reference the job description against your degree field using O*NET to confirm STEM OPT eligibility. Applying to roles with a clear degree-to-occupation match improves both your hiring odds and your extension eligibility later.
How does Tetra Tech hire OPT students?
OPT is work authorization granted directly to F-1 students after graduation — no employer petition is required. Tetra Tech can hire OPT students as soon as their EAD card is approved. STEM degree holders can extend OPT by 24 months when their employer is enrolled in E-Verify. Most companies that hire OPT students also support the transition to H-1B when the student's OPT period is ending. Check Tetra Tech's individual postings on Migrate Mate to confirm OPT acceptance per role.
