Frame Your Supervision Credentials Clearly
Group Leader roles at Good Shepherd Services require documented experience supervising direct care staff in community or residential settings. Organize your references and performance reviews to show program oversight and team leadership, not just client-facing work.
Confirm Your Visa Category Fits the Role
Good Shepherd Services sponsors multiple visa types, including H-1B1 and TN, each with distinct eligibility rules. Verify your nationality and degree field qualify before applying, since a Group Leader position in healthcare services must meet specialty occupation criteria under USCIS guidelines.
Target Openings Across All Program Sites
Good Shepherd Services runs Group Leader positions across a wide range of community programs in New York City. Apply to multiple site-specific postings rather than a single opening, since hiring decisions are often made at the program level, not centrally.
Start the Offer Conversation Early on Timeline
Once you receive a verbal offer, ask HR directly whether they initiate the Labor Condition Application with DOL before your start date. Group Leader roles that require LCA certification can add several weeks to onboarding, and your F-1 OPT clock won't pause during that window.
Use Migrate Mate to Surface Active Group Leader Listings
Sponsor-verified Group Leader openings at Good Shepherd Services can be hard to track across multiple job boards. Use Migrate Mate to filter current postings by visa type and role so you're applying to positions where sponsorship is already confirmed.
Prepare Your J-1 Waiver Documentation in Advance
If you're coming off a J-1 exchange visitor program, Good Shepherd Services operates in community health contexts that may qualify for a Conrad 30 waiver. Confirm with your program sponsor whether a two-year home residency requirement applies before accepting any offer.

Does Good Shepherd Services sponsor H-1B visas for Group Leaders?
Good Shepherd Services has sponsored H-1B1 visas for roles in its organization, and Group Leader positions can qualify when the role meets the specialty occupation standard under USCIS guidelines. That typically means requiring a bachelor's degree or higher in a directly related field, such as social work, psychology, or human services. Confirm the specific educational requirement with the hiring team before applying.
Which visa types does Good Shepherd Services commonly use for Group Leader roles?
Good Shepherd Services sponsors several visa categories for its workforce, including H-1B1, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, TN, and J-1. For Group Leader positions specifically, F-1 OPT is a practical near-term path for recent graduates, while TN works for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying social service disciplines. H-1B1 is available for Chilean and Singaporean nationals in roles that meet specialty occupation criteria.
What qualifications does Good Shepherd Services expect for Group Leader positions?
Good Shepherd Services typically looks for candidates with direct experience supervising staff or leading program activities in a community-based, residential, or youth services setting. A bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, education, or a related field is usually expected. Bilingual skills in Spanish are frequently preferred given the communities the organization serves across New York City.
How do I apply for Group Leader jobs at Good Shepherd Services?
You can find current Group Leader openings at Good Shepherd Services through Migrate Mate, which filters postings by visa sponsorship type so you can confirm eligibility before applying. When you apply, tailor your resume to highlight supervisory experience and any direct care or case management background. Reaching out to the program-level hiring contact after submitting your application can improve your chances, since Group Leader hiring often happens at the site level.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Group Leader role at Good Shepherd Services?
Timeline depends on your visa category. For F-1 OPT, you can typically start within your authorized work period while the employer completes onboarding. For H-1B1, the employer files a Labor Condition Application with DOL first, which usually takes one to two weeks, before the visa petition is submitted. J-1 placements depend on your program sponsor's timeline. Build at least six to eight weeks of lead time into your start date planning if a petition or LCA is required.
