Job Roles at Bucknell University
How to Get Visa Sponsorship in Bucknell University Green Card Visa Sponsorship Jobs USA
Target tenure-track and research faculty roles
Green Card sponsorship at Bucknell University is most common for faculty positions where long-term commitment is built into the role. Tenure-track appointments and research-intensive positions are the clearest path to permanent residency support.
Understand the EB-2 NIW versus PERM distinction
Universities like Bucknell typically pursue PERM-based Green Cards for staff and faculty, but some research roles may qualify for EB-2 National Interest Waivers. Clarify with HR which pathway applies to your position before accepting an offer.
Raise sponsorship during the offer stage, not after
At Bucknell, Green Card sponsorship conversations are most productive when initiated during offer negotiation. Raising it after you've accepted and started working can complicate timelines and HR processes within the university's legal team.
Leverage Bucknell's academic hiring cycles
Higher education hiring at Bucknell follows predictable academic calendar cycles. Applying early in the fall recruitment window for faculty roles improves your chances of landing a position that includes Green Card sponsorship in the offer package.
Search for verified Green Card sponsor roles on Migrate Mate
Finding employers with a real Green Card sponsorship track record takes more than reading a careers page. Migrate Mate surfaces verified sponsors so you can filter by actual sponsorship history and focus applications on roles where sponsorship is genuinely available.
Build relationships within your department before applying
At a mid-sized university like Bucknell, departmental advocacy matters. Faculty hiring committees have real influence over whether a role includes Green Card sponsorship. Connecting with potential colleagues through conferences or research collaboration strengthens your candidacy meaningfully.

Get Access To All JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Bucknell University sponsor Green Card visas?
Yes, Bucknell University sponsors Green Card visas for qualifying employees. Sponsorship is most consistently available for tenure-track faculty and specialized professional staff where the university has a demonstrated long-term need. Green Card support is evaluated on a role-by-role basis, typically in coordination with Bucknell's immigration counsel and HR team.
Which roles and departments at Bucknell University are most likely to receive Green Card sponsorship?
Faculty positions in STEM, business, and the social sciences are the most common recipients of Green Card sponsorship at Bucknell. Research-focused roles and senior professional staff in areas like information technology and academic administration have also historically received support. Adjunct and visiting positions rarely qualify.
How does the Green Card application process work at Bucknell University?
Bucknell typically initiates the PERM labor certification process through the Department of Labor, which requires demonstrating that no qualified U.S. worker is available for the role. Once PERM is certified, Bucknell's legal counsel files the I-140 immigrant petition with USCIS. The employee then waits for a visa number to become available before filing for adjustment of status.
How long does the Green Card process take at Bucknell University?
The timeline depends heavily on your country of birth and the visa category. PERM alone can take a year or more, and I-140 adjudication adds additional time. Applicants born in India or China face significantly longer waits due to visa backlogs that can stretch years beyond initial filing. Starting conversations with HR early is essential.
How do I improve my chances of getting Green Card sponsorship at Bucknell University?
Targeting roles where Bucknell has a clear long-term need gives you the strongest foundation. Demonstrate your value during the hiring process and raise sponsorship expectations explicitly at the offer stage. Migrate Mate can help you identify which open positions at verified sponsoring employers align with your background, so you're applying where sponsorship is a real possibility.
What is the prevailing wage for Green Card sponsorship at Bucknell University?
Employers sponsoring a Green Card through the PERM labor certification process must pay at least the prevailing wage for the role. The Department of Labor determines this rate based on the specific job title, location, and experience level. The prevailing wage is locked in during the PERM filing and applies through the entire Green Card process. You can look up current rates using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
