💻 Role
Shipping is one of the most operationally complex and business-critical parts of Whatnot. It directly shapes buyer trust, seller confidence, CX burden, trust and enforcement decisions, and shipping economics. The Logistics Platform team builds the shared systems, data, and capabilities beneath shipping on Whatnot. That includes core logistics data, tracking and scan normalization, platform interfaces, and the observability and investigation surfaces that other teams rely on. We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer, Logistics Platform to help make those systems more trustworthy, operable, and easy to build on. This is a product-minded platform role: much of the work is internal-facing, but the impact is very external — better buyer and seller experience, fewer support issues, stronger trust decisions, and better margin outcomes.
As a Software Engineer On Logistics Platform, You Will
- Build and improve source-of-truth systems, APIs, and internal platform interfaces that other teams depend on for logistics workflows and decisions.
- Own backend and platform work across logistics data quality, shipment state normalization, observability, and operational debugging surfaces.
- Partner closely with Product, Data Science, CX, Ops, Trust, and Finance to turn messy real-world logistics problems into durable systems and better user outcomes.
- Improve the correctness, timeliness, and usability of the logistics data that powers support, trust, product, and operational workflows.
- Build tooling, monitoring, and debugging primitives that help teams detect problems earlier and get to truth faster.
- Use AI thoughtfully in day-to-day engineering work to improve quality, learning speed, debugging, and execution — while keeping a strong independent bar for correctness and risk judgment.
We offer flexibility to work from home or from one of our global office hubs, and we value in-person time for planning, problem-solving, and connection. Team members in this role must live within commuting distance of our Los Angeles hub.
👋 You
People who do well at Whatnot tend to be comfortable figuring things out as they go, biased toward action, and genuinely curious about what they're building. They care more about outcomes than credit and stay close to the product and the people using it.
We’re Especially Excited About Candidates Who Have
- Experience building and owning meaningful backend or platform systems in production at the senior scope — i.e. developing and owning moderate-to-complex software, disambiguating meaningful problems, and collaborating effectively with stakeholders and cross-functional partners.
- Strong product judgment and the ability to connect technical work to user impact, business outcomes, and explicit trade-offs.
- Experience in complex marketplace, coordination, delivery, fulfillment, trust, or post-purchase systems where software decisions interact with messy real-world state.
- Strong instincts around data quality, source-of-truth systems, observability, and operational debugging.
- A thoughtful approach to AI: not just using AI for more output, but using it to improve the quality of engineering work while knowing where verification and independent judgment still matter.
- Comfort operating in fast-moving, high-ownership environments with ambiguity and shifting priorities.
Nice To Have
- Experience in adjacent domains like rideshare coordination, food delivery, marketplace fulfillment, trust/risk operations, or order tracking and exception-handling systems.
- Experience working on a marketplace or other two-sided platform.
- Direct experience in logistics, shipping, or fulfillment systems.
🎁 Benefits
- Flexible Time off Policy and Company-wide Holidays (including a spring and winter break)
- Health Insurance options including Medical, Dental, Vision
- Work From Home Support + Home office setup allowance + Monthly allowance for cell phone and internet
- Care benefits + Monthly allowance for wellness + Annual allowance towards Childcare + Lifetime benefit for family planning, such as adoption or fertility expenses
- Retirement; 401k offering for Traditional and Roth accounts in the US (employer match up to 4% of base salary) and Pension plans internationally
- Monthly allowance to dogfood the app + All Whatnauts are expected to develop a deep understanding of our product. We're passionate about building the best user experience, and all employees are expected to use Whatnot as both a buyer and a seller as part of their job (our dogfooding budget makes this fun and easy!).
- Parental Leave + 16 weeks of paid parental leave + one month gradual return to work *company leave allowances run concurrently with country leave requirements which take precedence.

Job Roles at Whatnot
How to Get Visa Sponsorship in Whatnot Green Card Visa Sponsorship Jobs USA
Target engineering and product roles
Whatnot's Green Card sponsorship is concentrated in technical functions like software engineering, data science, and product management. Prioritizing these departments gives you the strongest chance of landing a role with a clear path to permanent residence.
Ask about Green Card timelines during interviews
Retail-adjacent tech companies vary widely in how proactively they initiate Green Card filings. Ask your recruiter directly whether the role has an established sponsorship track and how soon the PERM process typically begins after hiring.
Understand the PERM labor certification step
Whatnot's Green Card process, like most employer-sponsored paths, starts with PERM labor certification through the Department of Labor. Knowing this step exists and what it requires helps you ask informed questions and set realistic timeline expectations.
Verify sponsorship history before applying
Not every open role at Whatnot comes with Green Card sponsorship. Migrate Mate surfaces verified sponsors so you can filter by real sponsorship history, saving you time and helping you focus on roles where sponsorship is genuinely on the table.
Connect sponsorship to your long-term value
Whatnot operates in a fast-growing segment of retail commerce. Framing your skills around live shopping, marketplace infrastructure, or seller growth shows the company why retaining you long-term, and sponsoring your Green Card, is a strategic investment.
Confirm your visa status is Green Card-compatible
Green Card sponsorship requires your current status to allow employer-sponsored immigrant petitions. If you're on H-1B, E-3, or L-1, you're well-positioned. Make sure Whatnot's HR team is familiar with your specific visa category before the process begins.

Does Whatnot sponsor Green Card visas?
Yes, Whatnot sponsors Green Card visas for eligible employees. Sponsorship is most common in technical and product roles, and the company has an active record of supporting permanent residence filings. Not every role includes sponsorship, so confirming directly with the recruiting team during the interview process is advisable.
Which roles at Whatnot are most likely to receive Green Card sponsorship?
Green Card sponsorship at Whatnot is most consistently offered in software engineering, data science, machine learning, and product management. These roles align with the EB-2 and EB-3 employment-based categories, where employer-sponsored PERM petitions are the standard path to permanent residence.
How does the Green Card application process work at Whatnot?
Whatnot typically follows the standard employer-sponsored Green Card process: PERM labor certification through the Department of Labor, followed by an I-140 immigrant petition filed with USCIS, and then adjustment of status or consular processing depending on your situation. The company's immigration counsel handles the filings on behalf of the employee.
How long does Green Card sponsorship take at Whatnot?
The overall timeline depends on your country of birth and the visa category. PERM certification alone can take one to two years, and priority date backlogs for nationals from India and China can extend the wait significantly beyond that. Employees from most other countries generally face much shorter waits once the I-140 is approved.
How do I find Green Card jobs at Whatnot?
Migrate Mate lists open roles at verified Green Card sponsors including Whatnot, so you can search specifically for positions where permanent residence sponsorship is part of the offer. Applying through channels that confirm sponsorship upfront helps you avoid wasting time on roles where it isn't available, which is common at retail and tech companies alike.
What is the prevailing wage for Green Card sponsorship at Whatnot?
Employers sponsoring a Green Card through the PERM labor certification process must pay at least the prevailing wage for the role. The Department of Labor determines this rate based on the specific job title, location, and experience level. The prevailing wage is locked in during the PERM filing and applies through the entire Green Card process. You can look up current rates using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
