Secure Your FINRA Licenses Before Applying
LPL Financial expects Financial Professional candidates to hold or be on track for Series 7 and Series 66 licenses. Having these credentials in hand before you apply signals you can operate independently from day one, which strengthens the sponsorship business case.
Target LPL's Independent Advisor Network Roles
LPL operates as a broker-dealer supporting independent advisors, so Financial Professional openings vary by office structure. Focus on corporate-employed positions rather than independent contractor roles, since only W-2 employees qualify for H-1B sponsorship under USCIS rules.
Use Migrate Mate to Filter Sponsorship-Ready Openings
Not every Financial Professional posting at LPL leads to sponsorship. Use Migrate Mate to identify roles where LPL has an active sponsorship history for this function, saving you time before you invest in a full application.
Align Your Degree to the Role's Specialty Occupation Standard
USCIS requires H-1B roles to qualify as specialty occupations. A finance, economics, or accounting degree maps cleanly to Financial Professional duties. If your degree is in an unrelated field, gather documentation showing how your coursework or CFA progress bridges the gap.
Ask About PERM Sponsorship During the Offer Stage
LPL sponsors both H-1B and employment-based Green Cards for this role. During offer negotiations, ask directly whether the position includes a PERM-based Green Card pathway, and clarify the typical timeline from H-1B approval to PERM filing to set realistic expectations.
Account for the H-1B Cap Timeline in Your Job Search
USCIS opens H-1B registration in March for an October 1 start date. If you're in a 60-day grace period or OPT extension, map your LPL application timeline backward from the next cap season to avoid a status gap between your current authorization and the petition start date.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does LPL Financial sponsor H-1B visas for Financial Professionals?
Yes, LPL Financial sponsors H-1B visas for Financial Professional roles. The company has a consistent sponsorship history for this function across its corporate employment track. To qualify, the role must meet USCIS specialty occupation standards, which Financial Professional positions typically satisfy when tied to a finance or economics degree and client advisory responsibilities.
Which visa types are commonly used for Financial Professional roles at LPL Financial?
H-1B is the primary nonimmigrant visa used for Financial Professional roles at LPL Financial. For candidates pursuing permanent residence, LPL also sponsors EB-2 and EB-3 employment-based Green Card petitions through the PERM labor certification process. The right pathway depends on your qualifications, degree level, and how long you've held H-1B status.
What qualifications and experience does LPL Financial expect for Financial Professional roles?
LPL typically expects a bachelor's degree in finance, economics, accounting, or a related field, along with FINRA Series 7 and Series 66 licenses. Prior experience in client-facing advisory or investment management roles strengthens your candidacy. Candidates pursuing or holding a CFA charter are viewed favorably, particularly for roles with a portfolio management or institutional client focus.
How do I apply for Financial Professional jobs at LPL Financial?
Browse open Financial Professional positions at LPL Financial through Migrate Mate, which filters for roles with confirmed sponsorship history so you can prioritize applications strategically. Once you identify a relevant opening, apply through LPL's careers portal with your resume, FINRA license documentation, and a clear summary of your advisory experience. Early engagement with LPL's recruiting team can help clarify sponsorship eligibility before you invest significant time in the process.
How do I plan my timeline if I need H-1B sponsorship for a role at LPL Financial?
USCIS opens H-1B cap registration each March, with approved petitions taking effect October 1. If you receive an offer from LPL outside that window, you may need to bridge the gap using OPT or a grace period extension. Discuss timing with LPL's HR team early in the process so both sides can align on a start date that works within the cap cycle and your current authorization status.
