INTRODUCTION
At Lyft, our purpose is to serve and connect. We aim to achieve this by cultivating a work environment where all team members belong and have the opportunity to thrive. The autonomous transition is a transformational opportunity for Lyft. Our strategy focuses on becoming the preferred marketplace, fleet, and operational partner for the world's best Autonomous Vehicle (AV) providers. Lyft will leverage our platform advantages and scale to enable the success of AV partners across the value chain, from AV technology providers to OEMs to fleet providers. This role will help shape the future of AV partnerships at Lyft by supporting the origination of new partner relationships and keeping a rapidly expanding pipeline of opportunities moving forward. You will work in a highly collaborative, fast-paced environment. As a qualified candidate, you have a track record of managing multiple complex workstreams simultaneously and delivering high-quality outputs in a commercial or deal-making environment. You are a strong communicator who can prepare crisp, well-structured materials for senior audiences and represent Lyft professionally in partner-facing settings. You are able to coordinate across internal teams — strategy, finance, legal, and corporate development — to move deals forward efficiently. You uphold a high quality bar and have a strong appreciation for the details that matter in a commercial process. Above all, you are intellectually curious, energized by a full pipeline, and eager to develop deep expertise in the AV industry.
Responsibilities:
- Keep the pipeline moving by coordinating active AV partner conversations — scheduling meetings, setting agendas, tracking follow-ups, and making sure nothing falls through the cracks
- Make every partner interaction count by preparing crisp, well-structured materials for partner meetings, internal deal reviews, and leadership pipeline updates
- Accelerate deal momentum by drafting initial LOIs, MOUs, and term sheet inputs under the direction of the senior origination lead, turning alignment into written commitments
- Drive investment decision-making by working in close collaboration with the Corporate Development team — helping to evaluate partner opportunities, synthesize commercial context, and inform equity investment recommendations
- Give the team a clear view of the pipeline by maintaining accurate and up-to-date status, next steps, and open items across all active conversations
- Build the expertise to own deals independently over time by developing deep knowledge of different sectors — OEM, SDS, Fleet — and earning increasing responsibility for partner conversations
- Help senior leadership stay focused on the highest-value opportunities by supporting the origination lead in representing the pipeline clearly and confidently to senior stakeholders
- Stay ahead of the market by monitoring the AV ecosystem — tracking new entrants, funding rounds, partnerships, and competitive moves to inform pipeline prioritization and surface emerging opportunities
Experience:
- 3–5 years of experience in business development, strategy, or a similar commercial role
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple active workstreams simultaneously with strong attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to prepare high-quality materials for senior internal and external audiences
- Strong cross-functional collaboration skills; comfortable working across strategy, finance, legal, and operations teams
- Genuine intellectual curiosity about the AV industry and appetite to develop expertise in a fast-moving space
- Familiarity with commercial document drafting — LOIs, MOUs, or term sheets — is a plus
- Prior experience in BD or a deal-making environment is a plus, as is prior exposure to equity investment processes, including experience at a corporate VC or in a corporate development function
- Knowledge of the AV, automotive, or mobility ecosystem is a plus
BENEFITS:
- Great medical, dental, and vision insurance options with additional programs available when enrolled
- Mental health benefits
- Family building benefits
- Child care and pet benefits
- 401(k) plan with company match to help save for your future
- In addition to 12 observed holidays, salaried team members have discretionary paid time off, hourly team members have 15 days paid time off
- 18 weeks of paid parental leave. Biological, adoptive, and foster parents are all eligible
- Subsidized commuter benefits
- Monthly Lyft credits and complimentary Lyft Pink membership

Frame your experience around platform partnerships
Lyft's BD roles focus on mobility ecosystems, fleet partnerships, and enterprise accounts. Tailor your resume to show deal structuring, partnership lifecycle management, or go-to-market experience rather than generic sales background. Hiring managers are pattern-matching for specific commercial skills.
Confirm your visa type before applying
Lyft sponsors multiple work visa categories, but not every BD role is approved for every visa type. Cross-reference the job posting's sponsorship language against your current status before investing time in a full application cycle.
Target roles that match your degree field precisely
H-1B specialty occupation requirements mean your degree must align with the BD role's core function. A background in business, economics, or a related field is essential. Roles framed around strategy or partnerships typically have stronger specialty occupation footing than generalist titles.
Negotiate offer timing around H-1B cap deadlines
If you need cap-subject H-1B sponsorship, USCIS registration opens in March for an October 1 start. Push to receive and accept your Lyft offer before early March so your employer can register you in that cycle without delay.
Use Migrate Mate to filter BD roles by sponsorship type
Not all Lyft BD postings are tagged for visa sponsorship on general job boards. Use Migrate Mate to surface roles specifically listed as sponsoring your visa category, saving you from applying to positions where sponsorship isn't available.
Prepare documentation of external-facing deal work
DOL Labor Condition Application filings require Lyft to define your role's duties in detail. Bring evidence of past partnership agreements, contract negotiations, or revenue-generating BD work to support a strong job description that withstands USCIS scrutiny.

Does Lyft sponsor H-1B visas for Business Development roles?
Yes, Lyft sponsors H-1B visas for Business Development positions. BD roles at Lyft generally qualify as specialty occupations requiring a bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant field such as business, economics, or finance. Your employer files the H-1B petition with USCIS, which includes a certified Labor Condition Application from the DOL confirming the role meets prevailing wage requirements.
How do I apply for Business Development jobs at Lyft?
Apply directly through Lyft's careers portal, where BD roles are listed by team, region, and seniority. Before applying, confirm the posting explicitly mentions visa sponsorship. Tailoring your application to reflect Lyft's partnership-focused BD work, including mobility, enterprise, or platform deals, gives you stronger footing. Migrate Mate also surfaces Lyft BD roles filtered by visa sponsorship type, which helps narrow your search.
Which visa types does Lyft commonly sponsor for Business Development positions?
Lyft sponsors a range of visa categories for BD roles, including the H-1B, E-3 for Australian nationals, TN for Canadian and Mexican citizens, F-1 OPT and CPT for recent graduates, J-1 for qualifying exchange visitors, and employment-based Green Cards through the EB-2 and EB-3 categories. The right pathway depends on your nationality, degree, and career stage.
What qualifications does Lyft expect for sponsored Business Development roles?
Lyft typically looks for candidates with a bachelor's degree in business, economics, finance, or a related field, along with demonstrated experience in deal structuring, partnership management, or enterprise sales. For senior BD roles, prior experience in the technology, mobility, or platform economy sectors strengthens your candidacy. Strong commercial acumen and cross-functional collaboration skills are consistently prioritized.
How do I plan my timeline if I need visa sponsorship to join Lyft's BD team?
Timeline depends on your visa type. F-1 OPT allows you to start work quickly after graduation, while a cap-subject H-1B has an October 1 start date and requires USCIS registration in March. E-3 and TN visas move faster and can often be processed in weeks. Align your Lyft offer acceptance with these windows to avoid a gap in work authorization.
