Align your credentials to specialty occupation standards
Business Development roles at Cognizant typically require a degree in business, marketing, or a technology-adjacent field. Before applying, confirm your degree maps to the specific role description, because USCIS evaluates specialty occupation status on that match, not general business experience.
Target Cognizant's enterprise accounts and industry verticals
Cognizant structures Business Development around specific industry verticals like financial services, healthcare, and manufacturing. Tailoring your application to a vertical where you have prior client-facing or domain experience substantially improves your chances of clearing internal recruiter filters.
Use Migrate Mate to find open Business Development roles at Cognizant
Cognizant posts roles across multiple channels and locations, making it easy to miss relevant openings. Migrate Mate filters Cognizant's Business Development jobs by visa sponsorship type so you can focus your applications on positions where sponsorship is explicitly supported.
Clarify your visa type early in recruiter conversations
Cognizant sponsors both H-1B and E-3 visas for Business Development roles. If you're an Australian citizen, raise E-3 eligibility early, since it avoids the H-1B lottery entirely and can be processed on a shorter timeline without waiting for an annual cap cycle.
Prepare for the LCA wage level discussion before your offer
Cognizant's Business Development compensation must meet the DOL prevailing wage for the role's location and level. Familiarize yourself with how DOL wage levels work so you can evaluate whether an offer reflects a Level II or Level III position and negotiate from an informed position.
Time your application around Cognizant's H-1B filing window
If you need H-1B sponsorship, USCIS opens registration in March for an October 1 start date. Cognizant typically initiates internal approvals well before the registration window, so securing your offer by January or February gives the internal team enough runway to register you.

Find Business Development at Cognizant Technology Solutions JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Cognizant Technology Solutions sponsor H-1B visas for Business Developments?
Yes, Cognizant Technology Solutions sponsors H-1B visas for Business Development roles. Cognizant is a large, established employer with a consistent H-1B sponsorship record across its technology and consulting divisions. Business Development positions that require a relevant bachelor's degree in business, marketing, or a related field generally satisfy USCIS specialty occupation requirements for H-1B eligibility.
How do I apply for Business Development jobs at Cognizant Technology Solutions?
You can apply directly through Cognizant's careers portal or browse open Business Development positions on Migrate Mate, which filters Cognizant's roles by visa sponsorship type. When applying, tailor your resume to the specific industry vertical the role targets, such as financial services or healthcare, and be upfront about your visa requirements with the recruiter from the first conversation.
Which visa types does Cognizant sponsor for Business Development roles?
Cognizant sponsors both H-1B and E-3 visas for Business Development positions. The H-1B is available to all eligible nationalities but requires clearing the annual lottery. The E-3 is exclusively for Australian citizens and bypasses the lottery entirely, with an annual cap that has historically gone unfilled, making it a faster and more predictable path for Australians pursuing roles at Cognizant.
What qualifications does Cognizant expect for Business Development roles?
Cognizant typically looks for candidates with a bachelor's degree in business, marketing, computer science, or a related field, combined with experience in enterprise technology sales, client relationship management, or consulting. Roles targeting specific verticals like financial services or healthcare often expect domain knowledge alongside sales experience. For visa purposes, your degree should align directly with the role's core responsibilities to satisfy USCIS specialty occupation criteria.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Business Development role at Cognizant?
For H-1B sponsorship, the full timeline from offer to authorized start date spans several months, since employment typically begins October 1 following the March registration window. E-3 sponsorship for Australian citizens moves faster, often completing consular processing within four to eight weeks of the Labor Condition Application being certified by the DOL. Securing your offer well in advance of these filing windows is the most important factor in keeping the process on track.
