We’re an international team of visionaries and scientists, developing groundbreaking technologies that are transforming how the world uses information to enrich life. Micron is looking for a skilled Dry Mechanical Development Engineer to lead all aspects of third-party development of Dry mechanical systems, including Process Exhaust, HVAC systems, Make-up Air handling units, and clean rooms, for high-tech, large-scale semiconductor manufacturing projects. The Dry Mechanical Engineer will manage external design firms, ensuring that wet mechanical systems meet project specifications, performance standards, and regulatory requirements. This is an outstanding chance to contribute to best-in-class projects and collaborate with a company that prioritizes innovation and perfection!
YOUR ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
High-quality engineering services and specifications for the planning, design, construction, operation, and maintenance of your subject area-specific facilities systems in support of semiconductor manufacturing across the Micron Global Manufacturing Network, especially in the USA. You will participate in capacity and scenario planning and evaluate the impact of changes. In this role, you will support the Facilities Teams and Manufacturing.
What’s Encouraged Daily
- Coordinate third-party design firms in the development of dry mechanical systems. These systems may encompass process exhaust (e.g., acid, ammonia, VOCs, and others), including scrubbers and abatement equipment, HVAC systems ranging from comfort cooling to clean-room make-up air handling, and all aspects of clean-room design.
- Review and validate third-party development work, including piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), equipment specifications, and system layouts, ensuring alignment with project requirements and standards.
- Conduct technical evaluations of third-party compositions, verifying performance metrics such as flow rates, pressure, thermal efficiency, and system reliability.
- Collaborate with external engineering teams, contractors, vendors, and internal partners to align dry mechanical system compositions with facility requirements and project timelines.
- Perform quality assurance and risk assessments on third-party compositions, identifying and resolving issues related to constructability, efficiency, or compliance with building codes and laws.
- Ensure third-party builds integrate seamlessly with other facility systems, such as Chilled Water (UPW), chemical, and gas systems, using Building Information Modeling (BIM) tools for coordination.
- Coordinate the implementation of safety and regulatory protocols for dry mechanical systems, ensuring compliance with OSHA, EPA, and local codes (e.g., International Fire Code, International Mechanical Code).
- Support commissioning and testing phases by reviewing third-party development performance and coordinating with vendors for equipment validation and system startup.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in mechanical engineering, environmental engineering, or a related field.
- Experienced in dry mechanical engineering for 3-5+ years, including 2 years coordinating third-party designs for clean room HVAC systems, HVAC hydronic, or process exhaust systems.
- Extensive expertise in Dry mechanical system development, encompassing Clean Room HVAC systems for semiconductor manufacturing in industrial or high-tech settings.
- Knowledge of industry norms and guidelines, including AHRI (Air-conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration Institute), SMACNA (Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors National Association), IMC (International Mechanical Code), and ASHRAE standards.
- Proficiency in reviewing engineering work, including P&IDs, 3D models, and specifications, using tools like AutoCAD, Revit, or Navisworks.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience coordinating third-party designs for semiconductor, pharmaceutical, or data center facilities with stringent wet mechanical system requirements.
- Knowledge of balanced composing practices, such as water conservation, energy-efficient hydronic systems, and compliance with IECC (International Energy Conservation Code).
- Experience with control systems (e.g., PLC, SCADA) and BIM workflows for build coordination is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with clash detection and build integration processes using BIM tools.
- Ability to mentor internal teams or liaise optimally with external partners to ensure composition alignment.
- Sophisticated certifications (e.g., PE, LEED AP, CPD).

Align your resume to fab-specific disciplines
Micron hires Mechanical Engineers for DRAM and NAND fabrication environments. Tailor your resume to highlight cleanroom systems, process equipment integration, or thermal and fluid systems experience rather than general mechanical design.
Verify your degree field matches specialty occupation criteria
USCIS requires a direct connection between your degree field and the role. A degree in mechanical, mechatronics, or materials engineering maps cleanly. A general engineering degree without coursework in relevant systems may need supplementary documentation to satisfy the specialty occupation standard.
Target Micron's high-volume manufacturing sites directly
Micron's fabrication plants in Boise, Manassas, and Lehi generate the bulk of Mechanical Engineer openings. Filtering applications to these locations increases your odds of landing a role tied to active sponsorship pipelines rather than corporate or support functions.
Understand how Micron structures the LCA before your offer
Before Micron files your H-1B petition, they must submit a Labor Condition Application to the DOL certifying your offered wage meets the prevailing wage for your work location. Knowing this lets you ask informed questions about timeline and wage level during the offer stage.
Use Migrate Mate to filter open roles by sponsorship type
Micron sponsors across multiple visa categories, but not every posting maps to the same pathway. Use Migrate Mate to browse current Mechanical Engineer openings at Micron filtered by visa type so you can prioritize roles that match your specific authorization needs.
Prepare for a longer process if you need PERM-based sponsorship
EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card sponsorship through PERM requires DOL-supervised recruitment before Micron can file. This process typically takes 12 to 18 months from initiation to I-140 filing, so raise long-term sponsorship intentions early in the offer negotiation.

Find Mechanical Engineer at Micron Technology JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Micron Technology sponsor H-1B visas for Mechanical Engineers?
Yes, Micron Technology sponsors H-1B visas for Mechanical Engineers. Micron has an established immigration program that supports engineering talent across its fabrication and R&D operations. Mechanical Engineer roles typically qualify as specialty occupations under USCIS guidelines given their requirement for a bachelor's degree or higher in mechanical or a closely related engineering field.
Which visa types does Micron Technology commonly use for Mechanical Engineer roles?
Micron sponsors H-1B visas for most Mechanical Engineer hires requiring work authorization, along with H-1B1 visas for eligible candidates from Chile and Singapore. For longer-term permanent residency, Micron also pursues EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card sponsorship through the PERM labor certification process, which is typically offered to engineers in continuing roles rather than entry-level positions.
What qualifications does Micron Technology expect for Mechanical Engineer positions?
Most Mechanical Engineer roles at Micron require a bachelor's degree in mechanical, mechatronics, materials, or a related engineering discipline. Roles tied to semiconductor fabrication often expect familiarity with cleanroom environments, process equipment, or fluid and thermal systems. Senior-level positions may require a master's degree or several years of hands-on experience in a high-volume manufacturing setting.
How do I apply for Mechanical Engineer jobs at Micron Technology?
You can browse current Mechanical Engineer openings at Micron through Migrate Mate, which surfaces roles filtered by visa sponsorship type so you can identify positions aligned with your authorization needs. Applications go through Micron's careers portal, and roles at fabrication sites in Boise, Manassas, and Lehi tend to have the highest volume of active openings for this function.
How do I plan my timeline for H-1B sponsorship at Micron Technology?
H-1B petitions are subject to an annual cap with a lottery that opens in March each year for an October 1 start date. If you receive an offer from Micron outside that window, they may be able to file for the next available cap cycle or explore cap-exempt options if applicable. Building at least six months of lead time into your job search gives you the best chance of aligning an offer with the filing window.
