Align your credentials to semiconductor specializations
Micron's Principal Engineer roles cluster around DRAM, NAND, and emerging memory technologies. Frame your resume around specific process nodes, memory architecture, or reliability engineering rather than general hardware experience to clear initial screening filters.
Target roles in Boise, Manassas, or Singapore-linked teams
Micron's U.S. sponsorship activity concentrates in its Idaho headquarters and Virginia fabrication operations. Applying to roles tied to these sites increases your likelihood of reaching a hiring manager experienced with the H-1B process.
Request an LCA before your start date discussions
For H-1B transfers, the Labor Condition Application must be certified by DOL before USCIS can adjudicate your petition. Ask your Micron recruiter early whether the LCA for your specific job site and wage level is already filed or needs to be initiated.
Prepare documentation showing specialty occupation standing
USCIS scrutinizes Principal Engineer petitions for specialty occupation eligibility, especially when duties span multiple engineering domains. Gather job postings, degree transcripts, and industry wage data showing your role requires at minimum a bachelor's degree in a specific technical field.
Use Migrate Mate to filter open Principal Engineer roles
Micron posts Principal Engineer openings across multiple portals and internal systems simultaneously. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for Micron roles that include visa sponsorship, so you're not manually sifting through listings that exclude international candidates.
Clarify EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship timing during the offer stage
Micron sponsors both EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card pathways for engineering staff, but the timeline to begin PERM labor certification varies by business unit. Confirm during the offer negotiation whether your team has a standard policy or requires a tenure threshold before initiating.

Find Principal Engineer at Micron Technology JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Micron Technology sponsor H-1B visas for Principal Engineers?
Yes, Micron Technology sponsors H-1B visas for Principal Engineers and has done so consistently across its U.S. engineering sites. The company also sponsors H-1B1 visas for Chilean and Singaporean nationals. Sponsorship is typically initiated after a formal offer is extended, and Micron's legal team manages the filing process with USCIS directly.
How do I apply for Principal Engineer jobs at Micron Technology?
Apply through Micron's careers portal or use Migrate Mate to browse Principal Engineer openings that explicitly include visa sponsorship. Tailor your application to the specific memory technology domain the role covers, whether that's DRAM design, NAND process engineering, or firmware. Recruiters at Micron typically conduct an initial screen before routing candidates to the hiring manager.
Which visa types does Micron Technology commonly use for Principal Engineer roles?
Micron uses the H-1B as its primary work visa for Principal Engineers, along with the H-1B1 for eligible nationals. For permanent residence, the company sponsors both EB-2 and EB-3 categories, with most Principal Engineers qualifying for EB-2 given the advanced degree requirements associated with these roles. The specific pathway depends on your educational background and job duties.
What qualifications does Micron expect for Principal Engineer positions?
Most Principal Engineer roles at Micron require a master's or Ph.D. in electrical engineering, materials science, computer engineering, or a closely related field, paired with deep experience in a specific semiconductor domain such as memory design, process integration, or packaging. Leadership experience on complex technical programs and a publication or patent record strengthens your profile, particularly for roles that require USCIS to establish specialty occupation.
How long does the H-1B sponsorship process take at Micron Technology?
The standard H-1B filing timeline at Micron runs from the April 1 filing date through an October 1 start date for cap-subject cases, a roughly six-month window after the March lottery. Premium processing through USCIS reduces the adjudication period to 15 business days for an additional fee. If you're transferring from another employer on an existing H-1B, Micron can file a transfer petition and you can begin work once the petition is received by USCIS.
