Align your credentials to nuclear licensing requirements
Westinghouse frequently hires Principal Engineers to support nuclear plant design and safety analysis. Having documented experience with NRC-regulated projects, ASME codes, or reactor systems strengthens your petition's specialty occupation case before an H-1B is even filed.
Target roles tied to active project pipelines
Westinghouse's sponsorship activity concentrates in business units with live contracts. Focus your applications on programs like AP1000 deployments or U.S. government energy partnerships, where Principal Engineer headcount needs are tied to funded, ongoing work.
Confirm your OPT or CPT start date against project timelines
F-1 OPT and CPT windows are fixed. If Westinghouse's onboarding for a Principal Engineer role extends past your authorization expiration, flag it early so the team can initiate H-1B cap-subject or cap-exempt filing before you lose work authorization.
Use Migrate Mate to surface Principal Engineer openings
Westinghouse posts Principal Engineer roles across multiple divisions, and not all listings signal sponsorship willingness equally. Use Migrate Mate to filter and identify openings at Westinghouse that are relevant to sponsored candidates, saving you time screening roles that won't lead anywhere.
Request the LCA before accepting a verbal offer
Before signing anything, ask whether the Labor Condition Application has been submitted to DOL. At the Principal Engineer level, delays in LCA certification can push your H-1B filing past the cap registration window, which means waiting an additional year.
Prepare a technical portfolio that documents independent judgment
USCIS scrutinizes Principal Engineer petitions closely to confirm the role requires a specific degree, not just any engineering background. Document projects where you exercised independent technical judgment, authored engineering standards, or led safety-critical decisions to support the specialty occupation argument.

Does Westinghouse Electric Company sponsor H-1B visas for Principal Engineers?
Yes, Westinghouse Electric Company sponsors H-1B visas for Principal Engineer roles. The company operates in a highly specialized industry where qualified nuclear and energy engineers are in limited supply, which supports a consistent sponsorship posture for this function. You should confirm sponsorship availability directly during the recruitment process, as it can vary by business unit and project funding.
Which visa types are commonly used for Principal Engineer roles at Westinghouse Electric Company?
H-1B is the most common visa type for Principal Engineers at Westinghouse, covering candidates who require cap-subject sponsorship. F-1 OPT and CPT are used for recent graduates entering the role through training-eligible positions. TN visas are available for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering classifications. J-1 is occasionally used for exchange-based assignments within specific programs.
What qualifications or experience are expected for Principal Engineer roles at Westinghouse Electric Company?
Principal Engineer roles at Westinghouse typically require an advanced degree in mechanical, nuclear, or electrical engineering, often combined with substantial experience in regulated environments such as nuclear plant design, safety analysis, or reactor engineering. Familiarity with NRC requirements, ASME standards, or DOE project protocols is commonly expected. Prior work on commercial nuclear programs or government energy contracts strengthens your candidacy significantly.
How do I apply for Principal Engineer jobs at Westinghouse Electric Company?
You can browse and apply for Principal Engineer openings at Westinghouse Electric Company through Migrate Mate, which aggregates visa-sponsorship-relevant roles in one place. When applying, tailor your resume to reflect domain-specific technical expertise, as Westinghouse hiring teams review candidates against detailed engineering competency requirements. Following up with the recruiter to confirm sponsorship availability early in the process saves time for both sides.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Principal Engineer at Westinghouse Electric Company?
The timeline depends on your current status and the visa type involved. An H-1B cap-subject petition requires USCIS registration in March, with employment starting no earlier than October 1 if selected. TN visas for Canadians can be obtained at the border in days. F-1 OPT extensions require filing with USCIS at least 90 days before your current authorization expires. Factor these windows into your negotiation timeline with Westinghouse.
