Align your portfolio to Autodesk's core platforms
Autodesk Principal Engineers typically lead architecture or systems work on products like AutoCAD, Revit, or Fusion. Framing your portfolio around CAD, BIM, or cloud-native infrastructure signals direct relevance before your resume reaches a hiring manager.
Confirm your visa category before applying
Autodesk sponsors multiple visa types including H-1B, E-3, and TN. Knowing which category fits your nationality and background lets you address sponsorship directly in recruiter screens instead of waiting for the offer stage.
Request LCA details before signing any offer
Before accepting an offer, ask Autodesk's recruiting team which DOL prevailing wage level they intend to file under. Principal Engineer roles often fall at Level III or IV, and the LCA wage must match or exceed that threshold.
Document your technical leadership evidence specifically
USCIS scrutinizes specialty occupation claims for senior engineering titles. Gather concrete artifacts showing you drove system design decisions, not just contributed to them. Architecture docs, RFCs, and cross-team ownership records are the strongest evidence.
Find open Principal Engineer roles at Autodesk on Migrate Mate
Search Migrate Mate to filter Autodesk Principal Engineer postings by visa type. This lets you surface only roles where your sponsorship category is actively supported, saving time before you invest in tailoring your application.
Time your application around H-1B cap cycles if applicable
If you need a new H-1B and aren't cap-exempt, offers must be structured to meet the April 1 USCIS filing window. Engage with Autodesk recruiters by February to confirm timing feasibility before the registration period opens.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Autodesk sponsor H-1B visas for Principal Engineers?
Yes, Autodesk sponsors H-1B visas for Principal Engineer roles. The company works with immigration counsel to file the required Labor Condition Application with the DOL and then the H-1B petition with USCIS. Because Principal Engineer is a specialty occupation requiring a directly related bachelor's degree or higher, these roles are well-suited to H-1B sponsorship criteria.
How do I apply for Principal Engineer jobs at Autodesk?
Applications go through Autodesk's careers portal at autodesk.com/careers, where you can filter by job family and seniority. You can also browse Principal Engineer openings at Autodesk that include visa sponsorship directly on Migrate Mate, which surfaces roles by visa type so you can confirm sponsorship support before applying. Tailor your resume to reflect system ownership and cross-functional technical leadership.
Which visa types does Autodesk commonly use for Principal Engineer roles?
Autodesk sponsors H-1B, E-3 visa, TN visa, and Green Card pathways including EB-2 and EB-3 for Principal Engineers, as well as F-1 OPT and CPT for candidates in active student status. Australian citizens often pursue the E-3 visa as a faster alternative to the H-1B lottery. Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering occupations may use TN visa status, which does not require USCIS approval and has no annual cap.
What qualifications does Autodesk expect for Principal Engineer candidates?
Autodesk Principal Engineer roles typically require deep expertise in software architecture, distributed systems, or platform engineering, with a track record of driving large-scale technical decisions. A bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a closely related field is standard. Significant hands-on experience with Autodesk's product domains, such as 3D modeling, cloud infrastructure, or developer platform tooling, strengthens your candidacy considerably.
How do I navigate the visa filing timeline after receiving an offer from Autodesk?
The timeline depends on your visa type. H-1B cap cases must be registered with USCIS in March for an October 1 start, so offers need to be finalized well before that window. E-3 and TN cases move faster, often resolving in two to six weeks through consular processing or a port of entry. Autodesk's immigration team typically coordinates with an outside law firm, so ask early in the offer process which filing track applies to you.
