Frame Your Experience Around Client Deliverables
TCS hires Mechanical Engineers to serve specific client accounts, not internal teams. Tailor your resume to highlight project delivery, cross-functional collaboration, and measurable outcomes on infrastructure or manufacturing engagements rather than academic or lab-based work.
Align Your Degree Field to the Posted Role
H-1B specialty occupation approval requires a direct connection between your degree field and the job duties. A mechanical engineering degree must map clearly to the role's technical requirements. Gaps between your credentials and the job description raise RFE risk at USCIS.
Target TCS Postings Tied to Active Client Projects
TCS Mechanical Engineer openings tied to active client engagements move faster through internal approval and are more likely to result in a visa sponsorship offer. Use Migrate Mate to filter and browse current Mechanical Engineer openings at TCS with confirmed sponsorship history.
Clarify Sponsorship Eligibility Before Final Interviews
TCS uses a structured hiring process with multiple rounds. Confirm early whether the specific business unit posting the role has budget approved for H-1B or Green Card sponsorship. Some client-facing units operate under different workforce models that affect sponsorship availability.
Prepare Your OPT or CPT Documentation in Advance
If you're transitioning from F-1 status, have your OPT EAD card, I-20, and DSO contact ready before your first HR call. TCS's onboarding team will verify F-1 work authorization through E-Verify, and delays in documentation can push your start date past your authorized period.
Understand TCS's PERM Timeline for Green Card Filing
TCS sponsors EB-2 and EB-3 Green Cards through PERM labor certification filed with the DOL. The process typically starts after one to two years of employment. For Indian nationals, priority date backlogs in the EB-3 category can mean a wait that extends well beyond the initial PERM approval.

Find Mechanical Engineer at Tata Consultancy Services JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Tata Consultancy Services sponsor H-1B visas for Mechanical Engineers?
Yes, TCS sponsors H-1B visas for Mechanical Engineers. TCS is one of the largest H-1B filers in the technology services sector, and Mechanical Engineer roles are among the positions they sponsor. Sponsorship is typically tied to a confirmed client engagement, so job openings with active project backing move through the process more reliably than general pipeline roles.
How do I apply for Mechanical Engineer jobs at Tata Consultancy Services?
You can browse and apply for Mechanical Engineer roles at TCS directly through Migrate Mate, which filters for positions with confirmed visa sponsorship history. TCS also posts openings on its own careers portal. The hiring process typically includes multiple technical and HR rounds, so prepare to discuss both your engineering background and your ability to support client-facing project delivery.
Which visa types does TCS commonly use for Mechanical Engineer roles?
TCS sponsors H-1B visas most commonly for Mechanical Engineers, along with TN visas for Canadian and Mexican nationals who qualify under the USMCA professional categories. For F-1 students, TCS supports both CPT and OPT authorization. Longer-term, TCS files for EB-2 and EB-3 Green Cards through the PERM labor certification process with the DOL for eligible employees.
What qualifications does TCS expect for Mechanical Engineer positions?
TCS typically expects a bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field. For H-1B sponsorship, that degree connection must be direct and documentable, since USCIS requires a clear relationship between your credentials and the job duties. Practical experience with CAD tools, product lifecycle management systems, or engineering analysis software strengthens your application significantly for client-facing roles.
How long does the sponsorship and hiring process take at TCS?
From offer to start date, plan for at least three to six months when H-1B filing is involved, depending on where you are in the fiscal year. H-1B cap-subject petitions are filed in April for an October 1 start. If you're already on OPT or a prior H-1B, TCS can file outside the cap cycle. USCIS premium processing, which expedites adjudication to 15 business days, is sometimes available and can reduce uncertainty significantly.
