Apple’s Display Technologies group is looking for Mechanical Engineers to design and develop innovative display modules for future products. Here you will create next-generation technologies, processes, and components, and own the integration of them into groundbreaking, mechanically robust display designs with amazing performance.
Description
Our team wants colleagues with a strong curiosity and understanding of the design and development of consumer electronics or mechanical design fields!
-
Design display components based on optical, electrical, mechanical, and other cross-functional requirements. Work with the system team to define the interface to the product including fit, assembly features, and tolerance analyses. Deliver any needed specifications including 3D/2D.
-
Achieve system goals through mechanical design optimization, prototyping, new material qualification, and manufacturing processes. Audit factories to review the manufacturing and assembly at each step to ensure high yield and high quality.
-
Define & implement validation plans for ME characteristics of the display modules using scientific & analytical approaches. Drive thorough failure analyses for any issues to reach robust corrective actions. Ensure the specifications are met throughout the supply chain. Communicate validation results to peers and leadership.
-
Act as a focal point among multiple world-class cross-functional teams and suppliers to identify open issues, drive them to closure, and deliver mechanically robust displays. Support the product throughout engineering development, mass-production ramp-up, and launch.
-
Evaluate state-of-the-art mechanical designs and technologies, innovate ways to further improve Apple display performance, and enable strong and compact system designs.
-
This role will travel internationally (~15%, primarily Asia).

Tips for Finding Mechanical Engineer Jobs at Apple
Tailor your portfolio to Apple hardware
Apple's mechanical engineering interviews focus heavily on design-for-manufacturability and tight tolerance work. Before applying, document projects involving consumer electronics enclosures, thermal management, or precision machining, the closer your samples are to Apple's product stack, the stronger your case.
Distinguish your visa type before interviewing
Apple sponsors multiple visa categories including H-1B, E-3, and TN. Know which category fits your nationality and background before the recruiter screen, interviewers expect you to articulate your immigration pathway, not leave it to HR to figure out.
Target roles that align with specialty occupation criteria
Mechanical Engineer positions at Apple typically require a degree in mechanical or materials engineering, which satisfies USCIS specialty occupation standards. Avoid applying to hybrid operations or program management roles, those titles can complicate the specialty occupation determination at filing.
Use Migrate Mate to filter Apple openings by visa type
Apple posts Mechanical Engineer roles across multiple product divisions simultaneously, making it hard to identify which openings are realistic for sponsored candidates. Use Migrate Mate to filter Apple's listings by the visa types you're eligible for and track new postings as they open.
Time your application around Apple's hiring cycles
Apple's hardware teams ramp hiring in late summer and early fall to align with product development timelines. If you need H-1B sponsorship, an offer by late February gives your employer time to file before the April 1 USCIS registration window opens.
Confirm PERM readiness before accepting an offer
If your long-term goal is a Green Card through EB-2 or EB-3, ask Apple's immigration team early whether they initiate PERM for your role category. DOL's PERM process requires proving no qualified U.S. workers are available, and some engineering specializations move faster through this process than others.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Apple sponsor H-1B visas for Mechanical Engineers?
Yes, Apple sponsors H-1B visas for Mechanical Engineers. Mechanical engineering roles typically qualify as specialty occupations under USCIS standards because they require at minimum a bachelor's degree in a directly related field. Apple's established immigration infrastructure means the internal legal and HR processes are already in place, though sponsorship is confirmed at the offer stage, not during recruiting.
How do I apply for Mechanical Engineer jobs at Apple?
Apply directly through Apple's careers portal at jobs.apple.com, where Mechanical Engineer openings are listed by hardware division. You can also browse and track Apple's visa-sponsoring roles through Migrate Mate, which filters listings by visa type so you can focus on openings that match your immigration status. Referrals from current Apple engineers significantly improve the chances your application gets reviewed.
Which visa types does Apple commonly use for Mechanical Engineers?
Apple sponsors H-1B visas for most international Mechanical Engineers, along with E-3 visas for Australian citizens and TN visas for Canadian and Mexican nationals. For engineers already on F-1 OPT or STEM OPT, Apple can provide employment during that period and then transition sponsorship to H-1B. Longer-term, Apple also supports EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card sponsorship for established employees in engineering roles.
What qualifications does Apple expect for Mechanical Engineer roles?
Apple's Mechanical Engineer postings typically require a bachelor's or master's degree in mechanical engineering, materials science, or a closely related discipline. Hands-on experience with CAD tools such as SolidWorks or CATIA is standard, as is familiarity with GD&T, tolerance analysis, and design-for-manufacturing principles. Roles tied to specific product lines, such as acoustics or thermal systems, often require domain expertise that goes beyond general mechanical engineering.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take if Apple makes an offer?
Timeline depends on your visa category. H-1B sponsorship requires USCIS registration in March, a lottery selection, and a petition filed by April 1 for an October 1 start date. Premium processing reduces USCIS adjudication to 15 business days after filing. E-3 and TN visas move faster since they don't require lottery selection and can be processed at a U.S. consulate within a few weeks of receiving an offer.
