Align your credentials to WSP's project sectors
WSP's Mechanical Engineer roles skew toward buildings, transit, and energy systems. Frame your resume and portfolio around HVAC, MEP, or infrastructure work so hiring managers immediately see fit with their active project pipeline.
Search open roles by practice area on Migrate Mate
WSP posts Mechanical Engineer openings across dozens of office locations. Use Migrate Mate to filter by visa type and location so you're targeting offices actively sponsoring, not applying blind across the full job board.
File your OPT STEM extension before your first year ends
If you're starting on F-1 OPT, WSP qualifies as an E-Verify employer, which makes you eligible for the 24-month STEM extension. Start that USCIS filing well before your initial OPT expires to avoid a gap in work authorization.
Prepare a PE licensure plan before final-round interviews
WSP's consulting work is increasingly structured around licensed engineers stamping deliverables. Even if you're early-career, showing you're actively working toward your PE demonstrates long-term fit and strengthens the specialty occupation case for H-1B petitions.
Clarify which visa category applies before accepting an offer
Australian citizens should ask WSP's HR team early whether an E-3 is on the table. E-3 processing moves faster than H-1B cap-subject petitions and doesn't require lottery selection, so knowing your options before signing shapes your start date planning.
Understand how PERM timing affects your green card path
WSP sponsors EB-2 and EB-3 Green Cards, but PERM labor certification takes months and must follow a specific DOL recruitment process. Ask during the offer stage whether sponsorship is conditional on tenure and how long the company typically waits before initiating PERM.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does WSP sponsor H-1B visas for Mechanical Engineers?
Yes. WSP sponsors H-1B visas for Mechanical Engineers, and the company has a consistent track record of doing so across its U.S. offices. Mechanical Engineering qualifies as a specialty occupation under USCIS criteria, which is the core requirement for H-1B eligibility. If you're subject to the annual cap, your employer files during the April registration window for an October start date.
How do I apply for Mechanical Engineer jobs at WSP?
Apply directly through WSP's careers portal, but filter first by location and practice area to find roles where sponsorship is most likely. Migrate Mate lists WSP's open Mechanical Engineer positions with visa sponsorship filters applied, so you can see which postings align with your work authorization situation before you apply.
Which visa types does WSP commonly use for Mechanical Engineers?
WSP sponsors H-1B, E-3 visa, TN visa, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, and employment-based Green Cards including EB-2 and EB-3 for Mechanical Engineers. The right category depends on your nationality and career stage. Australian citizens can use the E-3 visa, which bypasses the H-1B lottery. Canadian and Mexican engineers in qualifying engineering roles may qualify for TN visa status.
What qualifications does WSP expect for Mechanical Engineer roles?
WSP typically expects a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field for entry-level roles, with advanced degrees or Professional Engineer licensure preferred for senior positions. Project experience in MEP systems, HVAC design, or infrastructure consulting is valued. Your degree must directly relate to the role to satisfy USCIS specialty occupation requirements for H-1B petitions.
How do I time my visa filing if I receive an offer from WSP?
Timing depends on your visa category. H-1B cap-subject filings happen once a year with an October start date, so an offer in, say, June means a four-month wait after selection. E-3 and TN visas can be processed at a consulate within weeks. For OPT extensions, USCIS recommends filing at least 90 days before your current authorization expires.
