Find Mechanical Engineer at Tetra Tech JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Tetra Tech sponsor H-1B visas for Mechanical Engineers?
Yes, Tetra Tech sponsors H-1B visas for Mechanical Engineers. As a professional services and engineering consulting firm, Tetra Tech regularly works with international engineers who require visa sponsorship. If you're on OPT or nearing the end of another work authorization, it's worth confirming sponsorship availability with the specific hiring team during the interview process, as sponsorship decisions can vary by project, office location, and role level.
How do I apply for Mechanical Engineer jobs at Tetra Tech?
Applications go through Tetra Tech's careers portal, where you can filter by job function and location. Before applying, review each job description carefully for degree requirements, preferred licensure, and project type. Migrate Mate lists Mechanical Engineer openings at Tetra Tech filtered by visa sponsorship eligibility, which helps you identify roles where your work authorization is confirmed before you invest time in the application.
Which visa types does Tetra Tech commonly use for Mechanical Engineer roles?
Tetra Tech sponsors H-1B, TN, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, and J-1 visas for Mechanical Engineers. F-1 OPT and CPT are common entry points for recent graduates, while the H-1B is the standard long-term path for non-Canadian and non-Mexican nationals. Canadian and Mexican engineers may be eligible for the TN visa, which doesn't require an H-1B lottery and can be processed more quickly through a DOL-compliant process.
What qualifications does Tetra Tech expect from Mechanical Engineer candidates?
Tetra Tech typically looks for a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field, with practical experience in project delivery for infrastructure, energy, or environmental clients. Many roles at the mid to senior level favor candidates with Professional Engineer licensure or active progress toward it. Familiarity with tools like AutoCAD, Revit, or hydraulic modeling software strengthens your application, particularly for roles tied to specific project types.
How do I time my application around my visa status at Tetra Tech?
If you're on F-1 OPT, apply with enough lead time so that an H-1B petition can be filed before your OPT expires. USCIS caps the H-1B at 85,000 per fiscal year, with the lottery running in March for an October 1 start date. For TN visa holders, transitions between employers are generally faster since there's no annual cap or lottery. Discuss your current status and authorization end date with the recruiter early so HR can plan accordingly.
