Align Your Degree to Specialty Occupation Standards
Tetra Tech's H-1B petitions for Civil Project Engineers require USCIS to classify the role as a specialty occupation. A degree in civil, structural, or environmental engineering maps cleanly. A general engineering or unrelated degree creates friction, so clarify your field before applying.
Target Project Types Matching Your Technical Background
Tetra Tech staffs civil engineers across water infrastructure, transportation, and environmental remediation. Applying to postings in your exact discipline, water resources, site development, or stormwater, strengthens the degree-to-role match that underpins a successful visa petition.
Use Migrate Mate to Find Open Civil Engineer Roles
Filtering by sponsor-confirmed employers saves time when you're on OPT or need cap-subject H-1B support. Use Migrate Mate to surface current Civil Project Engineer openings at Tetra Tech and sort by visa type accepted before you apply.
Understand How Tetra Tech Handles H-1B Cap Timing
Cap-subject H-1B petitions must be filed April 1 for an October 1 start. If Tetra Tech extends an offer after April 1, your earliest H-1B start is the following October. Clarify this with the recruiter upfront so both sides plan around the same timeline.
Request the LCA Wage Level During Offer Negotiation
DOL requires Tetra Tech to file a Labor Condition Application certifying your wage meets the prevailing level for your location and role. Ask which wage level the LCA will reflect, Level I through Level IV, because it signals how the employer is classifying your seniority.

Find Civil Project Engineer at Tetra Tech JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Tetra Tech sponsor H-1B visas for Civil Project Engineers?
Yes, Tetra Tech sponsors H-1B visas for Civil Project Engineers. The role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation under USCIS standards because it requires a bachelor's degree or higher in civil engineering or a directly related field. Sponsorship is not automatic with every offer, so confirm the company's willingness to sponsor during the recruiter screening call before investing time in the full interview process.
How do I apply for Civil Project Engineer jobs at Tetra Tech?
Applications go through Tetra Tech's careers portal. Search by job title and filter by location since civil engineering openings are tied to specific regional offices and active project contracts. You can also browse visa-sponsor-confirmed Civil Project Engineer listings at Tetra Tech through Migrate Mate, which surfaces roles filtered by sponsorship type so you can focus on positions that match your work authorization situation.
Which visa types does Tetra Tech commonly use for Civil Project Engineers?
Tetra Tech uses H-1B for long-term employment of international civil engineers and supports F-1 OPT and CPT for students completing degrees in civil or environmental engineering. TN visas are available for Canadian and Mexican nationals whose engineering credentials meet the USMCA occupation list requirements. J-1 is used in more limited circumstances, typically for exchange-based training programs rather than standard project engineer roles.
What qualifications does Tetra Tech expect for a Civil Project Engineer role?
Most Civil Project Engineer postings at Tetra Tech require a bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a closely related discipline, along with an Engineer-in-Training certification or progress toward a Professional Engineer license. Practical experience with CAD software, permitting processes, or project delivery on infrastructure contracts is commonly listed. Roles tied to federal or municipal clients may require additional clearances or compliance experience depending on the project scope.
How long does the H-1B sponsorship process take if Tetra Tech extends an offer?
The H-1B process starts with Tetra Tech filing a Labor Condition Application with DOL, which takes roughly seven business days under standard processing. The I-129 petition then goes to USCIS. Regular processing runs three to five months, while premium processing reduces that to 15 business days for an additional fee. Because H-1B employment starts no earlier than October 1, offers made after April require waiting until the following fiscal year unless you qualify for a cap-exempt filing.
