Align Your Credentials With PE Licensure Expectations
Tetra Tech's structural engineering roles in consulting typically expect progress toward a Professional Engineer license. Confirm your foreign engineering credentials are documented for NCEES evaluation before applying, since PE reciprocity affects how quickly you can contribute on stamped deliverables.
Target Offices Near Active Infrastructure Projects
Tetra Tech staffs structural engineers across regional offices tied to active project pipelines. Research which locations are winning federal or state infrastructure contracts, since those offices are more likely to have open headcount and budget to support H-1B sponsorship.
Clarify Sponsorship Scope During the Offer Stage
Ask directly whether the offer includes H-1B cap sponsorship or only cap-exempt transfers. Tetra Tech has held government contracts that may qualify certain roles for cap-exempt filing, which matters if you've already exhausted H-1B lottery attempts.
Use OPT STEM Extension to Build Project Experience First
If you're on F-1 OPT, Tetra Tech's consulting environment gives you up to three years on STEM OPT to build billable structural project experience. That track record strengthens your H-1B petition when your employer files, since project-specific duties ground the specialty occupation argument.
Search Tetra Tech Structural Roles Using Migrate Mate
Filter for Structural Project Engineer openings at Tetra Tech by visa type on Migrate Mate. This lets you quickly identify which postings are tied to sponsorship-eligible positions rather than manually reviewing dozens of listings across job boards.
Prepare a DOL-Ready Employment Verification Package
When Tetra Tech initiates your H-1B filing, DOL requires a certified Labor Condition Application before USCIS will process the petition. Have your official transcripts, prior visa documentation, and employment verification letters organized so HR can file the LCA without delays.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Tetra Tech sponsor H-1B visas for Structural Project Engineers?
Yes, Tetra Tech sponsors H-1B visas for Structural Project Engineers. The company operates across infrastructure, environmental, and government consulting sectors where structural engineering roles routinely qualify as specialty occupations under USCIS standards. Sponsorship availability can vary by office location and active project backlog, so confirming sponsorship intent early in the offer process is practical.
How do I apply for Structural Project Engineer jobs at Tetra Tech?
You can browse and apply for Structural Project Engineer positions at Tetra Tech through Migrate Mate, which filters specifically for roles where visa sponsorship is available. Tetra Tech also posts openings directly on its careers site. For sponsored roles, applications typically move through a technical interview focused on structural analysis experience, software proficiency, and project delivery background before an offer is extended.
Which visa types does Tetra Tech commonly use for Structural Project Engineers?
Tetra Tech supports H-1B, TN visa, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, and J-1 visas for structural engineering roles. H-1B is the most common long-term path. Canadian and Mexican engineers may qualify for TN visa status, which avoids the H-1B lottery. F-1 OPT and CPT are available for students or recent graduates entering consulting while completing their degrees or STEM OPT periods.
What qualifications does Tetra Tech expect for Structural Project Engineers?
Tetra Tech typically looks for a bachelor's or master's degree in civil or structural engineering, with demonstrated experience in structural analysis, design software such as RISA, SAP2000, or ETABS, and familiarity with IBC and ASCE codes. Progress toward an EIT or PE license is expected for project-level roles. Consulting experience on infrastructure or federal projects is a meaningful differentiator in the hiring process.
How do I handle the H-1B timeline if my OPT expires before the next lottery?
H-1B registrations open in March each year, with an October 1 start date if selected. If your OPT expires before October 1 and you're in a STEM-eligible field, a STEM OPT extension through Tetra Tech can bridge the gap. If there's still a timing shortfall, consular processing rather than a change of status may be required after lottery selection.
