Align your credentials to PE licensure expectations
Horrocks operates across multiple states, so having a U.S.-recognized engineering degree or an EAC/ABET-equivalent credential strengthens your application. If your degree is from outside the U.S., get a credential evaluation before submitting materials.
Target project types Horrocks actively staffs
Horrocks focuses on transportation, municipal, and site development infrastructure. Tailor your resume to highlight structural work on bridges, retaining walls, or utility corridors rather than building-focused projects, which better matches their pipeline.
Use Migrate Mate to find open structural roles
Searching broadly across job boards surfaces roles that don't filter for sponsorship. Migrate Mate lets you browse Structural Project Engineer openings at Horrocks specifically flagged for visa sponsorship, saving time and removing guesswork.
Confirm your visa category fits Horrocks's filing patterns
Horrocks has sponsored H-1B, TN, OPT, CPT, and J-1 candidates for engineering roles. If you're Canadian or Mexican, TN status offers a faster path than H-1B since it doesn't require a lottery or USCIS petition approval.
Raise sponsorship early in the offer conversation
Engineering firms sometimes delay visa discussions until late in the process, which creates timeline problems. Ask directly whether the role supports H-1B transfer or new filing during your first recruiter screen so both sides align before an offer is extended.
Prepare for DOL prevailing wage scrutiny at filing
Structural engineering roles at mid-sized firms like Horrocks often require a DOL Labor Condition Application. Confirm that your offered salary meets the prevailing wage for your specific work location, since Horrocks operates across multiple states with different wage levels.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Horrocks sponsor H-1B visas for Structural Project Engineers?
Yes, Horrocks has sponsored H-1B visas for engineering roles including Structural Project Engineers. Because the H-1B is subject to an annual lottery, timing matters. If you're already on H-1B with another employer, a transfer is faster. New cap-subject filings require USCIS selection in the April lottery before a petition can be approved.
How do I apply for Structural Project Engineer jobs at Horrocks?
You can find Structural Project Engineer openings at Horrocks through Migrate Mate, which filters job listings by visa sponsorship eligibility so you're not wasting time on roles that won't support your immigration status. From there, apply directly through Horrocks's careers portal and note your visa sponsorship needs clearly in your application or recruiter communication.
Which visa types are commonly used for Structural Project Engineer roles at Horrocks?
Horrocks sponsors H-1B, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, TN visa, and J-1 visas for engineering positions. Structural Project Engineer roles qualify as specialty occupations under H-1B rules given the degree requirement. TN visa is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals under USMCA and is often faster to obtain since it bypasses the H-1B lottery entirely.
What qualifications does Horrocks expect for Structural Project Engineer candidates?
Horrocks typically looks for a bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering from an ABET-accredited or equivalent program. Project experience with transportation infrastructure, site development, or municipal structures is relevant to their portfolio. Progress toward or achievement of a Professional Engineer license is valued, particularly for candidates targeting project-lead responsibilities.
How do I manage timing if my OPT or grace period is running short?
If your F-1 OPT expires before an H-1B is approved, a cap-gap extension covers you through September 30 of the filing year if your H-1B petition is timely filed. A 60-day grace period follows OPT expiration if no extension applies. Communicate your end date to Horrocks's HR team early so the filing timeline is built into your offer negotiation.
