Align your credentials with U.S. licensure expectations
Horrocks operates in infrastructure and construction where PE licensure carries weight. Before applying, confirm whether your foreign engineering credentials qualify for EIT registration in the relevant state, since that trajectory signals seriousness to hiring teams.
Target Horrocks openings matching your structural specialty
Horrocks posts Structural Engineer roles across bridges, buildings, and transportation infrastructure. Match your application to the specific project type you have documented experience in rather than applying broadly across every open position.
Browse Horrocks sponsorship-confirmed roles on Migrate Mate
Filter for Structural Engineer openings at Horrocks on Migrate Mate to see only roles where visa sponsorship is confirmed. This saves you from chasing positions where sponsorship is ambiguous or unavailable for international candidates.
Clarify your OPT or CPT timeline early in interviews
If you're on F-1 OPT, Horrocks will need to file your H-1B petition before your OPT expires. Flag your authorization end date in your first conversation so the hiring team can assess whether their timeline allows for a cap-subject filing.
Understand the H-1B cap lottery and its timing
H-1B registrations open each March for an October 1 start date. If you're not selected in the lottery, Horrocks can still employ you under OPT STEM extension or TN status if you hold Canadian or Mexican citizenship, keeping you work-authorized while waiting for a future cycle.
Request a specialty occupation confirmation before offer stage
USCIS evaluates H-1B eligibility based on whether the role requires a directly related bachelor's degree. For Structural Engineer positions, confirm with Horrocks HR that the job description explicitly requires a civil or structural engineering degree before you reach the offer stage.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Horrocks sponsor H-1B visas for Structural Engineers?
Yes, Horrocks sponsors H-1B visas for Structural Engineer roles. Because H-1B is a cap-subject visa, your employer must register you in the USCIS lottery each March for an October 1 start. If you're currently on OPT or CPT, coordinating your authorization end date with Horrocks' filing timeline is essential to avoid a gap in work authorization.
How do I apply for Structural Engineer jobs at Horrocks?
You can find and apply for Structural Engineer positions at Horrocks directly through their careers page or through Migrate Mate, where listings are filtered to confirm visa sponsorship availability. Tailor your application to the specific infrastructure or construction discipline the role covers, and clearly state your current visa status and work authorization timeline in your application materials.
Which visa types does Horrocks commonly use for Structural Engineer roles?
Horrocks works with several visa categories for Structural Engineers, including H-1B for specialty occupation workers, F-1 OPT and CPT for recent graduates from U.S. universities, TN visa for Canadian and Mexican nationals with qualifying engineering degrees, and J-1 visa for exchange visitors. The right visa depends on your citizenship, current status, and where you are in the hiring process.
What qualifications does Horrocks expect for Structural Engineer positions?
Horrocks typically looks for a bachelor's degree or higher in civil or structural engineering from an accredited program. For H-1B purposes, USCIS requires the degree to directly relate to the role's duties, so a general engineering or unrelated degree may complicate sponsorship. Progress toward PE licensure, familiarity with U.S. building codes, and experience on infrastructure projects are all advantageous.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take when joining Horrocks as a Structural Engineer?
Timeline depends on the visa type. H-1B has a fixed annual cycle with an October 1 start, so the process takes roughly six months from registration to employment authorization. TN status for Canadian nationals can be obtained at the port of entry in a single day. F-1 OPT applications to USCIS should be filed 90 days before your intended start date, with processing taking up to three to five months.
