Frame your LCA-relevant credentials early
Horrocks files Labor Condition Applications through DOL before submitting H-1B petitions. Have your degree equivalency documentation and any professional engineering (PE) exam progress ready before your first interview, so the employer can move quickly once an offer is made.
Target land development and infrastructure openings specifically
Horrocks organizes Project Engineer roles across service lines including transportation, water, and land development. Roles tied to active infrastructure contracts tend to have more urgent hiring timelines, which works in your favor if your OPT or grace period is running short.
Clarify TN eligibility if you hold a Canadian or Mexican engineering degree
Project Engineer roles in civil or environmental engineering commonly qualify under the TN Engineer category. Confirm your degree field maps to an approved TN occupation before your offer negotiation, since TN status can often be obtained at the port of entry without USCIS filing delays.
Prepare CAD and project delivery documentation for technical interviews
Horrocks Project Engineers are expected to manage deliverables across project phases, not just assist senior staff. Bring work samples showing your direct involvement in design, permitting, or construction administration, since these roles carry real project responsibility from day one.
Start your CPT or OPT application before accepting an offer
If you are on F-1 status, your Designated School Official must authorize CPT or OPT before you begin work. USCIS requires OPT authorization to be applied for at least 90 days before your intended start date, so align your DSO timeline with Horrocks's onboarding schedule.
Use Migrate Mate to filter Horrocks Project Engineer openings by visa type
Not every Horrocks posting specifies which visa types the hiring team is prepared to support. Use Migrate Mate to filter open Project Engineer roles by sponsorship type, so you apply to positions where your specific visa category is already confirmed rather than assumed.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Horrocks sponsor H-1B visas for Project Engineers?
Yes, Horrocks has sponsored H-1B visas for engineering roles including Project Engineers. Because H-1B sponsorship requires the employer to file a Labor Condition Application with DOL and then a petition with USCIS, it helps to raise your visa situation early in the process so Horrocks can assess timing and budget before extending a formal offer.
Which visa types are commonly used for Project Engineer roles at Horrocks?
Horrocks has sponsored H-1B visas and has also worked with candidates on F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, TN, and J-1 visa status. For recent graduates on F-1, OPT is the most common starting point. Canadian and Mexican nationals with engineering degrees often pursue TN status, which avoids the H-1B lottery and can be approved faster.
What qualifications and experience does Horrocks expect for Project Engineers?
Horrocks typically looks for a bachelor's degree in civil, environmental, or a related engineering discipline. Practical experience with AutoCAD or Civil 3D, familiarity with local permitting processes, and exposure to project delivery in infrastructure or land development are all valued. Candidates working toward or holding a Professional Engineer (PE) license have a stronger profile for senior-track roles.
How do I apply for Project Engineer jobs at Horrocks?
You can browse current Project Engineer openings on Horrocks's careers page or through Migrate Mate, which filters roles by visa sponsorship type so you can confirm your category is supported before applying. When you apply, be upfront about your visa status in your cover letter or early in recruiter outreach. Horrocks operates across multiple regional offices, so check whether the posting location aligns with the visa filing requirements for that state.
How do I time my visa sponsorship process when targeting a Horrocks offer?
If you are targeting an H-1B, the cap-subject filing window opens in April each year, with a lottery typically run in March. Aligning your offer timing to arrive before March gives Horrocks enough runway to file. If you are on OPT, your 60-day grace period after your end date is not work-authorized, so confirm your authorization end date and communicate it clearly to the hiring team during negotiations.
