Align your credentials to DOL specialty occupation standards
Development Manager roles at Tetra Tech typically require a degree in engineering, environmental science, or a related technical field. Confirm your credentials map to a specialty occupation before applying, since USCIS will scrutinize degree-to-role alignment for professional services positions.
Target Tetra Tech's program delivery divisions directly
Tetra Tech structures hiring around specific practice areas like water, environment, and infrastructure. Applying to Development Manager openings tied to an active program division improves your odds, since those teams have clearer budget authority and a demonstrated pattern of sponsoring technical managers.
Use Migrate Mate to filter Development Manager openings by visa type
Tetra Tech posts Development Manager roles across multiple locations with varying sponsorship eligibility. Migrate Mate lets you filter specifically for positions where H-1B or OPT sponsorship is confirmed, saving you from pursuing listings that won't support your visa situation.
Clarify sponsorship timing before your offer is drafted
Consulting firms often distinguish between roles that support H-1B transfer and new H-1B cap filings. During late-stage interviews at Tetra Tech, ask the recruiter whether the role is cap-subject or cap-exempt, since government contractor work can sometimes qualify for cap-exempt filing.
Prepare project management documentation that shows revenue accountability
Tetra Tech's Development Managers are expected to own client relationships and project budgets. Documenting your track record with contract values, client growth, and delivery outcomes strengthens both your candidacy and your H-1B petition's specialty occupation case.
Understand how LCA prevailing wage levels affect your negotiation
Your employer files a Labor Condition Application with the DOL before submitting your H-1B petition. The LCA locks in a prevailing wage for your role and location, so research DOL wage data for Development Manager positions in your target Tetra Tech office before you receive an offer.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Tetra Tech sponsor H-1B visas for Development Managers?
Yes, Tetra Tech sponsors H-1B visas for Development Manager roles. The company operates across engineering and environmental consulting, where Development Managers are typically classified as specialty occupation workers. Sponsorship availability can vary by practice area and location, so confirming with the recruiter during the interview process is the most reliable way to verify support for your specific role.
Which visa types does Tetra Tech commonly use for Development Managers?
Tetra Tech supports H-1B visas as the primary long-term work authorization path for Development Managers. F-1 OPT and CPT are also used, making the company accessible to recent graduates still within their authorized OPT period. TN visas are an option for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying professional roles. J-1 visa sponsorship has also been used in specific program contexts.
How do I apply for Development Manager jobs at Tetra Tech?
You can find and apply for Development Manager openings at Tetra Tech through Migrate Mate, which filters for roles with confirmed visa sponsorship so you're not wasting time on listings that won't support your situation. Tetra Tech typically expects applications that demonstrate technical project delivery experience, client management, and relevant credentials in engineering or environmental consulting.
What qualifications does Tetra Tech expect for Development Manager roles?
Tetra Tech generally looks for a bachelor's or master's degree in engineering, environmental science, or a related technical discipline. Beyond credentials, the company expects demonstrated experience managing complex projects, client accounts, and cross-functional teams within a consulting or professional services environment. Professional certifications like PMP or PE can strengthen your application, particularly for roles tied to infrastructure or government contracts.
How do I plan my timeline if I need H-1B sponsorship for a Development Manager role at Tetra Tech?
H-1B cap filings open in March each year for an October 1 start date, so you'll want an offer in hand by late February to give your employer time to prepare the petition. If you're on F-1 OPT, your authorized work period can bridge the gap while your H-1B is pending. Confirm with Tetra Tech's HR team whether the role qualifies for cap-exempt filing through any government-funded program work, which would remove the lottery timing constraint entirely.
