Tailor your resume to Tetra Tech's project scope
Tetra Tech's Controls Engineer roles often support environmental and infrastructure projects. Highlight experience with SCADA, PLC programming, or instrumentation in industrial or utility settings rather than listing generic automation skills.
Align your degree field with specialty occupation requirements
USCIS evaluates whether a Controls Engineer role qualifies as a specialty occupation. A degree in electrical engineering, control systems, or instrumentation engineering strengthens your petition far more than a broadly related field like general engineering.
Use Migrate Mate to identify open Controls Engineer roles at Tetra Tech
Tetra Tech posts Controls Engineer positions across multiple office locations and project types. Search Migrate Mate to filter specifically for sponsored roles at Tetra Tech and surface openings that match your visa category and technical background.
Understand Tetra Tech's LCA filing obligations before negotiating
Your employer must file a certified Labor Condition Application with DOL before submitting your H-1B petition. The LCA fixes your worksite location and wage level, so negotiate your role location carefully since a transfer to a new site requires a new LCA.
Request a clear sponsorship timeline from your recruiter
Controls Engineer hires at consulting firms often start on project assignments quickly. Ask the recruiting team whether they plan to file H-1B in the next annual lottery window or rely on cap-exempt pathways, so your start date planning accounts for USCIS processing timelines.

Find Controls Engineer at Tetra Tech JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Tetra Tech sponsor H-1B visas for Controls Engineers?
Yes, Tetra Tech sponsors H-1B visas for Controls Engineer roles. The process requires the role to qualify as a specialty occupation under USCIS standards, which is well-supported by Controls Engineer positions given their degree requirements in electrical or control systems engineering. Tetra Tech also sponsors TN, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, and J-1 visas, giving candidates across multiple visa categories a realistic path to employment.
Which visa types are commonly used for Controls Engineer roles at Tetra Tech?
Controls Engineer candidates at Tetra Tech most commonly use H-1B, F-1 OPT (including the 24-month STEM extension), and TN visas. Canadian and Mexican engineers in qualifying engineering disciplines can pursue the TN route without a lottery. F-1 students often start on CPT during internships before transitioning to OPT and ultimately H-1B sponsorship after receiving a full-time offer.
What qualifications and experience are expected for Controls Engineer roles at Tetra Tech?
Tetra Tech's Controls Engineer positions typically require a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, control systems engineering, or instrumentation engineering. Hands-on experience with PLC platforms, SCADA systems, and process control in industrial, utility, or infrastructure environments is consistently expected. Familiarity with environmental or water treatment systems is an advantage given Tetra Tech's project portfolio in those sectors.
How do I apply for Controls Engineer jobs at Tetra Tech?
Browse open Controls Engineer positions at Tetra Tech on Migrate Mate, where roles are filtered specifically for visa-sponsored positions so you can confirm sponsorship availability before applying. Once you identify a role, apply through Tetra Tech's careers portal and flag your visa status clearly in your application. Following up with the recruiting team about sponsorship timelines early in the process avoids surprises once an offer is extended.
How do I plan my timeline if I need H-1B sponsorship at Tetra Tech?
The H-1B lottery opens in March for an October 1 start date. If Tetra Tech selects you for a role and commits to sponsorship, your employer needs to register you in the lottery by late March. If you're currently on F-1 OPT, your authorized period bridges the gap while the petition is pending. Plan your job search to have an offer in hand by late February to allow enough time for internal approvals before the USCIS registration window closes.
