Position Summary
This position provides both field and office engineering support for environmental assessment, remediation, and reclamation projects in Montana and other locations. Working under the direction of senior engineers and project managers, the candidate will assist with site characterization, remedial design, construction oversight, and regulatory coordination for contaminated sites — including petroleum/organic compounds, metals, asbestos, and other solid or hazardous wastes — and supports business development activities as needed. The position requires safe field practices, technical competence in data collection and analysis, clear written documentation, and effective communication with project teams, clients, and regulatory agencies.
Essential Job Functions
This position offers a great career growth opportunity for an individual who wants to make a positive impact on the environment and local communities, while further building their career and practice in a diverse team capable of addressing contaminated sites from preliminary assessment to closure. The following duties are considered essential to the role. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions:
- Assist with planning and execution of site characterization and investigation activities (drilling, soil/groundwater sampling, trenching, asbestos surveys, monitoring well installation, and geophysical surveys).
- Collect, log, and QA/QC field data and samples; maintain chain-of-custody, field notes, and health & safety documentation.
- Support laboratory testing coordination and review laboratory data for consistency, data quality, and preliminary interpretation.
- Assist in development of remedial investigation reports, feasibility studies, remedial designs, and reclamation plans under senior staff guidance.
- Perform basic engineering analyses and calculations to support contaminant mass balance, simple fate-and-transport screening, contaminant delineation, and daylighting of conceptual site models.
- Prepare technical deliverables including field reports, boring and sampling logs, figures, tables, data summaries, and portions of regulatory submittals.
- Provide construction oversight and documentation during remedial and reclamation activities (daily observation, subcontractor coordination, inspection reports, and conformance checks).
- Support preparation of cost estimates, scopes of work, and proposals for remediation and environmental services; participate in client meetings and site visits to develop business opportunities.
- Assist with permitting and regulatory compliance tasks; prepare or contribute to permit applications, notifications, and regulatory correspondence.
- Follow and promote strict health, safety, and environmental procedures on site (including OSHA and project-specific H&S plans); participate in safety briefings and maintain personal protective equipment.
- Maintain project schedules, track field and lab deliverables, and provide timely updates to project managers.
- Communicate findings and recommendations clearly to project teams, clients, and regulators; escalate technical or safety issues to senior staff.

Align your credentials to Tetra Tech's project focus
Tetra Tech's environmental work spans remediation, PFAS response, and water infrastructure. Tailor your resume to reflect experience in those disciplines specifically, as generalist environmental backgrounds are harder to match to open requisitions.
Target offices tied to federal contracts
Tetra Tech does significant work for federal agencies like the EPA and Army Corps of Engineers. Roles on those project teams often have more predictable hiring timelines, which gives you a cleaner window to initiate sponsorship paperwork before critical deadlines.
Use Migrate Mate to filter Environmental Engineer roles
Not every Tetra Tech posting gets equal recruiter attention. Use Migrate Mate to surface Environmental Engineer openings where sponsorship is explicitly part of the role's hiring profile, so you're applying where your visa situation is already accounted for.
Document your professional engineer licensure progress
Many of Tetra Tech's Environmental Engineer roles require or prefer PE licensure. Having your EIT certification and state exam schedule documented signals long-term commitment to the role, which strengthens both your candidacy and the employer's willingness to invest in sponsorship.

Find Environmental Engineer at Tetra Tech JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Tetra Tech sponsor H-1B visas for Environmental Engineers?
Yes, Tetra Tech sponsors H-1B visas for Environmental Engineers. The company operates across environmental consulting, remediation, and infrastructure sectors that regularly require specialty occupation workers. Sponsorship decisions are typically made at the business unit level, so your best path is to confirm willingness during the offer negotiation stage rather than assuming it based on company-wide policy alone.
How do I apply for Environmental Engineer jobs at Tetra Tech?
Applications go through Tetra Tech's careers portal at tetratech.com. Search by job function and location, then apply directly to posted requisitions. You can also find Environmental Engineer openings at Tetra Tech that are filtered for visa sponsorship on Migrate Mate, which surfaces roles where international candidates are explicitly being considered, saving you time spent on postings where sponsorship isn't on the table.
Which visa types does Tetra Tech commonly use for Environmental Engineer roles?
Tetra Tech sponsors H-1B, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, TN, and J-1 visas for Environmental Engineer positions. F-1 OPT and CPT are common entry points for recent graduates. TN status is available to Canadian and Mexican engineers and tends to involve less paperwork than H-1B. H-1B is the standard long-term path for non-TN-eligible candidates in specialty occupation roles.
What qualifications does Tetra Tech expect for Environmental Engineer candidates needing sponsorship?
A bachelor's degree in environmental engineering, civil engineering, or a closely related field is the baseline. Tetra Tech frequently hires for project-specific skills including remediation design, NEPA compliance, stormwater management, and water quality analysis. Professional Engineer licensure or active EIT status is a competitive differentiator. For sponsorship-eligible roles, demonstrated technical depth in at least one of Tetra Tech's core service areas strengthens your petition's specialty occupation classification under H-1B standards.
How long does the sponsorship process take for an Environmental Engineer starting at Tetra Tech?
Timeline depends on your visa type. F-1 OPT authorization through USCIS can take up to 90 days, so apply early. H-1B standard processing runs several months; premium processing reduces that to 15 business days. TN status for Canadian citizens can be obtained at the border the same day with proper documentation. Build your target start date around these windows and confirm which processing path Tetra Tech will use before signing an offer.
