Align your stack with MongoDB's core systems
MongoDB's backend roles center on distributed systems, C++, Go, and Python. Before applying, make sure your resume reflects hands-on work with database internals, query processing, or high-throughput services. Generic backend experience won't stand out.
Target teams actively filing LCAs
MongoDB files Labor Condition Applications with the DOL for each sponsored hire. Search the DOL's OFLC disclosure data to identify which MongoDB job titles and office locations appear most frequently. That signals where active hiring and sponsorship activity is concentrated.
Clarify your visa category early in interviews
MongoDB sponsors multiple visa types, including H-1B, E-3, and TN. Knowing which category applies to you lets you flag relevant requirements upfront, like E-3's annual renewal cycle or TN's Canadian or Mexican citizenship requirement, so the recruiter loops in immigration counsel early.
Time your application around H-1B cap deadlines
If you need H-1B sponsorship, USCIS opens registration in March for an October 1 start date. Missing that window means waiting a full year. Factor this into when you start your MongoDB job search so an offer can align with the filing cycle.
Use Migrate Mate to find open Backend Software Engineer roles at MongoDB with confirmed sponsorship
Filtering by role and employer manually is slow and misses recently posted positions. Migrate Mate surfaces Backend Software Engineer jobs at MongoDB that are open to sponsored candidates, so you're applying to roles where sponsorship is already on the table.
Prepare for USCIS specialty occupation scrutiny
H-1B approvals for software roles have faced increased scrutiny around whether the position qualifies as a specialty occupation. Gather documentation showing your degree field directly maps to backend engineering work, and ask your employer's immigration attorney what supporting evidence they plan to include.

Find Backend Software Engineer at MongoDB JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does MongoDB sponsor H-1B visas for Backend Software Engineers?
Yes, MongoDB sponsors H-1B visas for Backend Software Engineers. The company works with immigration counsel to file the required Labor Condition Application with the DOL and the H-1B petition with USCIS. Because H-1B is subject to an annual cap and lottery, timing your application to align with the March registration window matters.
How do I apply for Backend Software Engineer jobs at MongoDB?
Applications go through MongoDB's careers site, where you can filter by engineering function and location. Most Backend Software Engineer roles involve a recruiter screen, a technical phone interview, and a multi-round virtual onsite covering systems design and coding. Migrate Mate also lists MongoDB's open Backend Software Engineer roles filtered for visa sponsorship eligibility, which can help you prioritize where to apply.
Which visa types does MongoDB sponsor for Backend Software Engineers?
MongoDB sponsors H-1B, E-3, TN, and Green Card pathways (EB-2 and EB-3) for Backend Software Engineers, and also supports F-1 OPT and CPT for students. E-3 is available to Australian citizens only and has no lottery. TN applies to Canadian and Mexican citizens under USMCA. Your nationality and current status determine which options are available to you.
What qualifications does MongoDB expect for Backend Software Engineer roles?
MongoDB's backend engineering roles typically require strong fundamentals in distributed systems, concurrency, and performance-sensitive code. Proficiency in C++, Go, or Python is common across job descriptions, particularly for teams working on the database engine or cloud platform. A bachelor's degree or higher in computer science or a closely related field is standard, and directly supports H-1B specialty occupation requirements.
How do I plan my timeline if I need visa sponsorship to work at MongoDB?
If you need H-1B sponsorship, work backward from the October 1 start date: USCIS registration opens in March, so you need an offer in hand before then. F-1 OPT students should confirm their OPT end date and whether STEM OPT extension is available, which provides up to 24 additional months of work authorization while an H-1B petition is pending with USCIS.
